I think he kind of dies at the end. I thought it was meant to be symbolic for his going to heaven hmmm... Well they doesn't die, any of them when they go to Valinor.... Nothing dies there, that's why it is called the Undying lands.... P.S: Nothing ages there, either...

No they don't. Nothing can age there. That is why Eärendil got the choice to be a mortal or immortal, since mortals are supposed to die, not to live forever like everything in Valinor would do, mortals like immortals.

You better do your research man. That's not what I read. Try looking at some of Tolkien's old, old writings.

I am sorry, I was wrong In Akallabêth it says that they would actually die faster there than in other places. I was mistaken.... But it does not say anything about what happens to hobbits there, and since Frodo was allowed to go there, matbe he was given the same choice as Eärendil and Elwing? I don't know...

Hi everyone, this is what i think on the subject. I believe you can die in the Undying lands unless you are immortal. going there does not make a person immortal, you would just go there and live out the rest of your life, in a place of eternal happiness and beauty. This is what i believe happened with Frodo, he went there so that he may be at last healed completely from the effects of the ring. If you want prove that going into the undying lands does not give immortality i can use Gimli as an example, it is said in the appendix that in the end he went with legolas to the undying lands, however a family tree in the book shows the year in which he was born as well as the year in which he died showing that even though he was there he did not gain immortality

While visiting Memoirs of the Shire, I discovered the same question on the FAQ page, here is what the answer to the question is "....The answer came from Tolkien's own hand in a letter dated September of 1963 ( letter # 246 )...
"Frodo was sent or allowed to pass over the Sea to heal him - if that could be done, before he died. He would have to eventually 'pass away': no mortal could, or can, abide forever on earth, or within Time."
So there is your answer, straight from Tolkien. Indeed death will come to mortals who dwell in the Undying Lands. "

in response to the tolkien quote
remember valinor is not on earth and the death of gimli would really be the year that he disappeared (went to valinor) because no dwarf would ever know the true date of his death if ever it came
It also only says that men not hobbits will die faster there and it is never told what fate is held in store for hobbits after death
