Hey, Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit are full of those beautiful poems and I like most of them (some are a bit confusing) so I want to you: what is your favourite poem? Oh, and can anyone give me the original verion of 'the road goes ever on'? I only have the dutch translation of the books and I can't find the normal, english verion anywhere. And maybe you can also tell me the song of Aragorn and Legolas after Boromir's dead.

Yes, most certainly the poem after Boromir dies, and also the one in Rohan- 'Where now the horse and the rider?' in the film it chokes me up...

ooo, I luv the poems in LotR and Hobbit! my favorite is the one Bilbo writes in Rivendell.
I sit beside that fire and think of all that I have seen of meadow flowers and butterflies in summers that have been;
Of yellow leaves and gossamer in autumns that there were, with morning mist and silver sun and wind upon my hair.
I sit beside the fire and think of how the world will be when winter comes without a spring that I shall ever see.
For still there are so many things that I have never seen: in every wood in every spring there is a different green
I sit beside the fire and think of people long ago, and people how will see a world that I shall never know.
But all the while I sit and think of times there were before, I listen for returning feet and voices at the door.
gahh I luv that poem soooo much!!!
oh and about "the road goes ever on" i'm not sure what the origianal vesion is, because there is a couple versions. I think this one may be, because its the first one in the book.
The road goes ever on and on Down from the door where it began. Now far ahead the Road had gone, And I msut follow, if I can, Pursuing it with eager feet, Until it joins some larger way Where many paths and errands meet. And whither then? I cannot say.

ooo, I luv the poems in LotR and Hobbit! my favorite is the one Bilbo writes in Rivendell. Yep, that would be my favourite poem, too. Feels a bit strange reading it in English though... I've gotten used to the Finnish translation of LotR. Not that it really matters, the poem is very beautiful in both languages and I just love it. ;D

My favourite poems... would have to be the one in ROTK when Legolas sings about the sea, and the warning that Galadriel sends to Legolas:
"Legolas Greenleaf long under tree, in joy thou hast lived. Beware of the sea! If thou hearest the cry of the gull on the shore thy heart shall then rest in the forest no more."
I have that one memorised...

My favourite is: All that is gold does not glitter, Not all those who wander are lost; The old that is strong does not whither, Deep roots are not reached by the frost. From the ashes a fire shall be woken, From the shadows a fire shall spring; Renewed shall be blade that was broken, The crownless again shall be king. I like a lot of the other ones too but that one always sticks in my mind. Especially the first half (which I have memorized) b/c it is very true and can be _____ to everyday life not just lotr. (i couldn't hink of the word so I put a blnak.)

I don't know why, but I really like Legolas' song of the Sea, from RotK. I like both of Galadriel's songs in the chapter Farewell to Lorien. And I love this one of Bilbo's:
I sit beside the fire and think of all that I have seen, of meadow-flowers and butterflies in summers that have been;
Of yellow leaves and gossamer in autumns that there were, with morning mist and silver sun and wind upon my hair.
I sit beside the fire and think of how the world will be when winter comes without a spring that I shall ever see.
For still there are so many things that I have never seen: in every wood in every spring there is a different green.
I sit beside the fire and think of people long ago, and people who will see a world that I shall never know.
But all the while I sit and think of times there were before, I listen for returning feet and voices at the door.

Legolas' song about the sea in ROTK... I love that line at the end: "Land of my people forever!"
