Lament for the Rohirrim: "Where now the horse and the rider? Where is the horn that was blowing?" So sad...

One of my favs too. Actually, I can't remember a poem I don't like.

LOL the only ones I didn't like were the ones from the Tom Bombadil section... I never liked him much.

Thanks for remembering me: I didn't like those very much too. So many poems and sometimes they were so boring. But I liked this one, especially the dutch translation:
O slender as a willow-want! O clearer than clear water! O reed by the living pool! Fair river-daughter! O spring-time and summer-time, and spring again after! O wind on the waterfall, and the leaves' laughter!
I liked this one, but it's absolutely not my favourite.

I also found Tom's boring, nonsense if you ask me.

I also found Tom's boring, nonsense if you ask me. I don't prefer them, but you have to give credit to Tolkien for creating them. They also fit Tom's character very well, even if they are boring and nonsense, however you describe them.

Yes they do, but I think there are too many Tom Bombadil Poems. And since the most of them are nonsense, it's getting a bit boring sometimes.

Of course they are very well written and go great with Tom but I found that there were so many about random topics that it got boring.

"A Elbereth! Gilthoniel! We still remember, we who dwell in this far land beneath the trees the starlight on the Western Seas."
When the hobbits meet the High Elves travelling to the Grey Havens near the beginning of FOTR... I simply love this song.

"Elessar! Elessar! Why do they kinsfolk travel afar?" Galadriel's message to Aragorn...

My favourite is: All that is gold does not glitter, Not all those who wander are lost; The old that is strong does not whither, Deep roots are not reached by the frost. From the ashes a fire shall be woken, From the shadows a fire shall spring; Renewed shall be blade that was broken, The crownless again shall be king. I like a lot of the other ones too but that one always sticks in my mind. Especially the first half (which I have memorized) b/c it is very true and can be _____ to everyday life not just lotr. (i couldn't hink of the word so I put a blnak.) I love that poem too! I also like "The Road goes ever on and on" those are my favs!
