I'm not sure it's just a well known saying. But they'd probably be things like: Girl meets boy, there's a problem the problem's resolved and they get together. or a quest or a story of good vs evil. My aunt told me that apparently a certain percentage (which for the life of me i can't remember) of books follow the plot "boy meets girl, boy loses girl, boy gets girl back again" What I think is annoying is when you come up with a story/character/plot and then read something which is similar. I call it being influenced by things you haven't read...

Here you think you have something really original, just to find that someone's already done that. You feel like they stole your idea, when in truth, you stole theirs! Okay, not exactly stole, but took somehow. I've had that with writing songs, too.

Gollum and Dobby aren't really similar in the books it's just the films that make them look kind of similar.

^True that, especially in the later books, Dobby is much less pathetic, and very unlike Gollum. I am reading GoF....again... lol. I dont even know how many times I've read those books.... so excited for July 16

I think that most good and evil books have the same plot it's jsut about making yours special and have flavor and something interesting that attracts attention.

No book can be complete without copying ideas from other authors.
If you're talking about copying, do you actually think Tolkien was the first to make up the doncept of elves, dwarves, and wiards?
Harry Potter is a great book. I am so excited for the 6th book.

Very true. People build off of ideas. And I'm also very anxious! ;D

I think its interesting how authors build off of eachother, its always kind of exciting when you're reading a book, and you find a reference to another book you've read... or maybe its just exciting for me

I think that the stupid (with excuse to all hp fans) Rowling is trying to copy LOTR, don't you see?? But of course she couldn't because nobody is as great as prof. Tolkien (I'm crazy - I know!)!! That's specially for my friend Farin if she read this one day (because she's so crazy about hp right now...).

You should rea the previous posts. It's very diffucult not to copy when you are dong the smae genre of writing. Here is what I previously said:

Come on, why would one author deliberately copy another anyway? You wouldn't feel good about yourself and everyone would kick up a stink. You would not do it. (or am i just fixated with trying to be original?) So any "copying" is merely ... subconscious influence.
