Hey Here are some similarities between Harry Potter and lotr -she so has copied some of it! HARRY POTTER - LORD OF THE RINGS Dumbledore - Gandalf Aragog (the spider in 2#) - Aragorn Demenetrs - Black Riders Wormtail - Wormtounge Dumbledore - A creature in middle earth Underground vaults in Gringotts-Mines of Moria
ALSO if youve read "NOrthern Lights" ...................
Spectre + Black Rider = Dementer

The spectres where white, though!
It's a good thought, that. There so many things.
For instance
Shelob > Aragog
They even LOOK the same in the movies.

I really don't minds some similarties. That's why LOTR fans love the books. Well some of them. And You really have to give JK Rowling some credit. She came up with this whole new world and all these events and things. It's not easy. And sometimes you can end up copying and not even know. And about Dumbledore, having an old leader type person attracts audiences. But really imagine trying to make up an entirely new world and not having to copy a tiny bit. It's not easy. I really have to say that she did a great job.

And about Dumbledore, having an old leader type person attracts audiences. And it comes from King Arthur legends - Merlin. No story can be complelty origional anyway because authors are always conciously or subconciously influenced by other things they've read, And apparently there's only 7 orginional story lines in the world.

Really? What are they?

I'm not sure it's just a well known saying.
But they'd probably be things like: Girl meets boy, there's a problem the problem's resolved and they get together. or a quest or a story of good vs evil.

The seven basic plots aren't specific things like "guy and girl meet", etc. These are the seven: 1 - [wo]man vs. nature
2 - [wo]man vs. man
3 - [wo]man vs. the environment
4 - [wo]man vs. machines/technology
5 - [wo]man vs. the supernatural
6 - [wo]man vs. self
7 - [wo]man vs. god/religion

yeah, we did those in english class in high school. my literature professor always tells us this: there are really only two plots in literature, a stranger comes and changes something, or someone goes away on a journey. i think those can fit too.

Yeah...see, those two are more specific plots, where as the seven are very general plots.
And Arien, I can't take credit, the [wo] was on the site I got them from! ;D
