If you read the appendix at the end of the ROTK, look for, "later avents concerning the flloewship". Here you will find a timeline, that shows: Aragorn dies, and Merry and Pippin are berried next to him. Rosie (Sam's wife) dies, and Sam gives the Red Book to his eldest daughter Elanor, then he Goes into the West, last of the Ring Bearers. Legolas and Gimli, then travel into the West together. I HOPE THAT THIS HAS HELPED SOME!!!

I always have told people that they should read the appendices, 'cause they realy contain nice and important stories.

Yes, read them. The appendacies contain not only those facts but stories such as the one about Arwen and Aragorn.

I read the appendices. I personally loved reading about what happened after the War of the Ring ended....

I learned to read and write Tengwar through the Appendices...and I also memorized the Elvish calendar through them. I love all the background info; I like it even more than the actual story, I think.

I am in the process of reading them! They are enourmously interesting! ;D I couldn't read them at first, there were too many names, but I skipped over most of Appendix A and am not going back and reading it after everything else, and for some reason it makes a lot more sense!

Yes the appendix's are a wonder! I love them, they tell so much about what happens at the end..tolkien could have made another book telling all about what happened at the end (ooh that would have been cool) but instead he made Timelines..so everyone should definatly look at them!

My dad listened to the stories on CD, and they didn't read the appendices. So I'll mention something (like the story of Arwen and Aragorn) and he'll look blankly at me and say "um, where was that?"

Herenya, tell your dad to get reading!
My mum went off on a big rant this morning, when she saw me reading LotR, saying it was allright for me because it was split into 3 easy carrying books, but she had to lug around this great massive volume around all day. Bless! I don't think she read the appendixes "in her day" though. I shall make her...

That worries me too. I often read them and Ara and Arwen's story is so important to the books as a whole.
