I actually though it was the first time I read the books.
But it's only to a certain level, Tolkien's son, Christoper, fought in WW2 and he himself fought in WW1

I agree. People just automatically asume that the war he fought in influenced him to write LOTR so there's a connection. But he said so himself it didn't! People need to check their facts before blarring stuff out on television.

Yeah, they should - i mean, you would think that Christopher Lee would have known since he knew Tolkien!! and plus these "experts" think theyre all it - they should remember that theyre human sometimes... xTx

I corrected my dad the other day when he said it seemed like an allegory for the war... no family member of mine is going to make a mistake like that!

lol Yeah. But in a way maybe it did influence him in a way and he himself didn't realize it. When we have something rooted in our head we start to lose realization of its influence.

We can't know for sure because it was Tolkien's mind but we humans seem to not realize what we do sometimes.
