Appendices are important, but they just seem kind of daunting because of all the extra info there... it can get confusing!!

Well everyones different and some people don't enjoy reading to much are absorbing a whole bunch of facts. It depends upon a person. Though, I love the appendices.

personally i love reading the appendices - if you need a quick reference then thats your place - plus if youre trying to figure something out, like when someone died say - Aragorn, then you would be able to look it up and find out how old he was and stuff like that.... xTx

I'm just still sad that the Elves had to leave Middle-earth at all... but at least Legolas got to go over the sea.

Exactly. ;D
Yes, but Middle-earth is meant to be the bases of England so if they hadn't left they would have to still be here. Though I SO SO SO wish they were still here and Middle-earth was it's own world.

didnt Tolkien say that LOTR wasnt an allegory of the war or anything!?! true, he may have designed m-e around the bases of England but he even said so himself that the story itself wasnt an allegory - it pisses me off (excuse the French lol) when people say "oh, LOTR is all about Nazi Germany (Mordor) and Hilter (Sauron)" and stuff like that - if these so-called fans actually read the foreword (i think its the Foreword, cant remember) that Tolkien wrote himself they would see it there, printed in black and white - the reason im blowing a fuse is because a program has just come on tv (something on channel four - for schools) its all about Symbolism and Allegory and they've just announced that LOTR is one of the most well known Allegorical (i think think thats a word lol) stories in recent history!!! grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr *stalks away to try and find a contact address so she can go off the head at them* sorry about my blowout....lol - hope i didnt piss anyone off xTx

No Tinwen I agree! It's right there in the foreword by JRR Tolkien that there is NO allegory between LOTR and the war! If anything, I would say that Tolkien was an early naturist... because of the theme of Industry destroying all that is green and good. If there was any allegory, it was just that Tolkien wanted to point out that too many forests fall for the sake of industry...

Oh yes we warriors for Tolkien! Also on the extra features, Christopher Lee (Saruman) said that it was an allegory to the war... NOOOO IT ISN'T!
