It was very well done but I didn't like it being there in general. I think the reason why PJ killed Haldir is to show even more the suffering of the peoples of Middle-earth.

I can't belive they killed him off because they wanted another emotional climax before the end

Yeah. They could have shown some other random person beside Aragorn being killed sadly.

if another person had died though it would have been wierd, but if no one the audience really knew we wouldn't have gotten the whole effect of war, yes the victories but not the price of war, death.

True. Though it still would ahve effected. I think they should have shown it just like Faramir died, all dramatic but someone else from Lothlorien.
