No. I think they should have had him in the background and not saying anything but standing there. Because no were in the book does it say he is or is not there.

I agree with Estella that he was likely in shock from the first blow and he probably didn't know that the other Orc was behind him. I hate that the elves came to Helms Deep. So many of them died! They didn't die in the book!

in the movie i think that having a character that you know die was put in to emphasis the seriousness of the battle, which can be lost in legolas's and gimli's games. perhaps it was the easiest way to do it. I still think that's why Haldir dies. So that movie-goers didn't come out going "great, but isn't it highly unrealistic that non of the main characters died." Because in the book there are people like Hama who have a bigger part in the book than film, and therefore their death has a bigger emphasis and fulfills the criteria of the above... Note - that doesn't mean I agree with it!

No. But I really hated it that he died in the movie!! He didn't die in the book... But still, I thought the scene with the elves coming to Helm's Deep was quite good.
