I very much doubt that Haldir commited sucide. It doesn't seem likely for an elf. Death is foreign to them. And besides elves don't really die. They dwell in the Halls of Mandos for a long while and then are restored to Valinor and when they are fully matured again they remember all from their past lives. I can see why he migh have commited suicide. His kin dying, the sadness, fear and giving up. But no I don't think he sucided at all. He's a brave courageous elf for crying out loud. After all he's been through I don't think he would have just turned his back like that.

Same here. That article I posted opened up a whole new point of view on elves.

I believe that Haldir went back to Lorien, protected it until Galadriel and Celeborn and left for Valinor, and then went with his brothers. As for him committing suicide, he got a slash in the wrist and when that happens a lot of blood is lost very quickly. This can cause lightheadedness, which I think caused him to drop to his knees. From that point of view, he could see the death and destruction going on all around him, and he was to heartbroken about that to notice the Uruk coming up behind him. That is just my theory I was pretty disappointed when PJ killed Haldir. He is my favorite character! I was so sad

That part made me cry for two reasons. 1) It is so sad, and 2) because Haldir rocks!!!! ;D

I was close to tears as well. Also partly because he doesn't die in the book.

I'm very curious to know why he did that.

Maybe to add kind of a dramatic scene.Or maybe because he didn't want to start a character and then never return to what happened to him. I don't know

That would have been a simple situation. Couldn't he just show some random elf dying? And he could have just had Haldir sail away with Galadriel and Elrond and the rest standing in the background.
