That was because Eowyn was the one crushing, not Aragorn. He's wise and sees what's really going on. He loved her but not in that way; he wanted her to be happy from the first moment he saw her because she was so in despair. Arwen and Aragorn's love is true because Arwen is willing to give up her immortality and than die after spending, what would seem to an elf a heartbeat of time together because if she sailed into the West she would only have memory and not know how it feels to love because she has found her true love but did not stay with him. If she didn't marry Aragorn he probably wouldn't marry anyone else and Gondor would have no heir.

very well put Arien! It breaks Eowyn heart so much that she decides life is not worth living and she turns to battle for death. And the rest, is history. She ends up slaying the Witch King

She ends up slaying the Witch King Thanks Eowyn! Yeah, Eowyn realized her love for Aragorn wasn't true and so she found she loved Faramir and it was happy till the end.

That was a hard decision to make though, Aragorn was the only one who had respect for Eowyn, she didn't want to give that up.

definately Aragorn and Arwen - Aragorn even knows that Eowyn doesnt truly love him - he says so himself he says: "It is but a shadow and a thought that you love" Eowyn got greedy!!! lol xTx

Yes, I can imagine. It would be hard to give up the only way you could really get respect. I would have trouble too. She was a bit reluctant when they stood upon the City Wall but she came through in the end.

arwen is the best for aragorn! eowyn was rather naive in loving him. however, aragorn (being the perfect gentleman) did not put her down. he was respectful and decent towards eowyn, even though he knew that it would never work out between them. i think eowyn just needed the experience to "find herself" and sort her feelings out. she came to an understanding in the house of healing when she fell in love with faramir. she found that her love for faramir was true love, not the way she "loved" aragorn. arwen and aragorn had a deep, abiding relationship. aragorn was not going to give that up so rashly! he was a man of fidelity and integrity, he would always remain true to arwen, despite the fact that they were long separated. i don't think eowyn could have done anything to make aragorn love her back. it was a lost cause.

At times I pity Eowyn, she is not allowed to do what she wants to be a shield maiden, fighting along side of warriors. And she fought in the battle of Plennor only because she was looking for an escape, death. You have to sink very low to get to that point.

I totally agree!...word for word! ;D
You do have to feel for her, I mean she's gone through so much mental tourcher. With Wormtongue and her uncle and just the sadness. I think her wanting to die was a bit rash but...

to go though more of that torture?
that would hurt her some much more, she wanted an escape and she chose battle, which men didn't want her to be in, and they couldn't accept that.
So what is worse, being tortured for the rest of your life and not accepted, or death (the easy way out)?

it was rash of her to want to die but there was nothing wrong with her fighting.

i gotta admit - there were a couple of scenes that I felt sorry for Eowyn like in the TT or ROTK EE (cant remember which one) where she is sleeping in the hall at Edoras and she wakes up and talks to Aragorn - i felt sorry for her there... but she shouldnt try to steal someone elses man - thats bad... xTx

Aragorn doesn't mention Arwen till after Eowyn is head over heals for him though
(I'm not saying it was right!)
