[glow=red,2,300]Important[/glow] I dont know about u guys...but i personaly think thet the ending to the lord of the rings trilogy kind of begs for some final explanations. For example: what Legolas and Gimli did after the war was over, or how Aragorn and Arwen lived their lives after there great adventure. I also want to hear morea bout Sam and Pippin and Merry...like how they grew up. I know there are some books about the events afterword..but they're more like documentaries. Wouldnt these characters' ends make great stories in themselves? Just Wondering Eowyn

your right, you could make a book on just the rest of their lives...unfortunately tolkien isnt alive to write it......

who says it must be tolkien? if it really must though, (it would be better) we could rasie him from the dead...he might not be too happy about that though

Well, you know he did originally write an epilogue where all those threads were tied up...but according to Christopher Tolkien's "History of ME" the editors thought it was too long an ending

yes true enough the appendixes have some answers.. but i think that there could be an entire NOVEL about their lives...i mean..they are very well loved characters after all

The appendix shares the most. I like reading the appendix as much as I enjoy reading the trilogy. Here is the account of Sam: When Rose died in the year 61, Sam left Bag End to his oldest son Frodo Gardner and gave The Red Book to his daughter Elanor. He went to the Grey Havens, where it is said that he passed over the the Sea into the West. It is hoped that he was reunited with Frodo before he died.
Here is the account of Legolas and Gimli :
After the death of Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli travel over the sea...most probably with Samwise.
That might not help you in anyway....but, to anyone who never knew any of this, here you go.

read "The History of the Lord of the Rings"....there are four books and the one called "The End of the Third Age" has the Epilogue. It's very sweet and touching and I am extremely glad I read it. The Epilogue features Sam and all his little kids....awwwww

Yes there could be a lot more written on the subject! Acctually I just read an awesome 35 chapter fan-fiction that dealt with Eomer and Lothiriel after the War of the Ring....it was quality stuff- and I'll never see them the same way again. I think that's the only way that we'll ever have an idea about the characters after LoTR- writing fan fiction.

Well Legolas and Gimli lived in Ithilien in about thirty years, and built a grey ship and sailed it to Valinor

They actually stayed for 122 years, from 1419 to 1541 after the Shire counting. They left Middle Earth the same year Elessar (Aragorn) died.
