Now...I have two topics to cover...
The March of the Ents: In the book, Treebeard tells Merry and Pippin that he is uninterested in events as faraway as Mordor, or the Shire; but Saruman is an enemy who must be dealt with. So he then calls an Entmoot..... In the movie, Merry ( not so much Pip) trys to tell Treebeard that he must do something, because he is a part of this world. Only until TB sees all the cut-down trees does he decide he must go to war...
Topic #2.....
In the book, Theoden is eager about taking the Uruk Hai head on. But Gandalf is the one who tells him to reconsider, and flee to Helm's Deep...There is so much more...I will post the rest later. In the movie..Gandalf and Aragorn urge Theoden for open-war...but Theoden is the one who orders the retreat....

Yes, I like the book version better, I think. Here is the rest:
Continued Topic #2:
In the book...At Helm's deep, when their need was dire, Gandalf brings the Rohirrim forces under Lord Erkenbrand ( Eomer is fighting right beside Aragorn ) to break the siege, and the Huorns come to dispose of the routed Orcs.
In the movie....
Gandalf brings the forces of EOMER to save the day, on the second morning, by breaking the siege right after Theoden leads his charge out of the Hornburg....
Woo....

I didn't mind either of those changes actually. Treebeard's hesitance gave Merry and Pippin a chance to show a bit more maturity. Then at Helm's Deep, it might have been too confusing to introduce another character (Erkenbrand) so having Eomer ride in seemed alright. Only one problem---where in the heck did he get all those riders?? When he met Aragorn he sure didn't seem that have that many!

Hear hear! er...hear what I have to say! I guess in the movies, they didn't want to make Theoden seem like a flighty old man who just wants revenge (not that he is in the books, but with PJ, characters can change very oddly...) so they took the opposide. Doesn't Erkenbrand round up some other riders that were still around the Fords of Isen (oh crap, how the heck am I not sure whether that was where Theodred was killed??) or something? Maybe that's what Eomer did, and then they rode to Helm's Deep. ;D Don't want to sound mean and nasty and rude, but for those of you who haven't read the books, please read them and then post under the book discussion section! Don't just post the fact that you have no idea what we're talking about over and over.... And I'm not trying to single Lorina out, because in all the other book sections there are always a few people who type "huh?? i have no idea what your talking about. i havent read the books ;D" and I just realized it looks like I'm obsessed with smiley faces, but I'm not...

In the book, Faramir knew about the Ring, resisted it's power and helped Frodo, but in the movie they made him to much like Boromir, trying to take the Ring and all that....

I didn't mind the changes too much. In fact, I didn't really notice them. I think that PJ changed the characters a little bit so that it would make the movies more interesting. I think that the changes (even though they were small!!) helped show the viewers how their characters had developed from the beginning of the story better than it had in the books.

I didn't mind the changes to much, but the elves coming to Helms Deep would have made Tolkien turn in his grave.... I wish PJ had included Tom Bombadil....
