Kayden warmed Ellie up. She walked, trotted and cantered her both directions. Her dad Scott, who was also her trainer, came out. "Hey Kayde. You ready?" He smiled. "Yeah!" "Ok, let's do line up, line down. Bending line, to the bending line. End spread to the combination." Kayden retraced the course, and asked Ellie for the canter. She circled her and headed toward the first line of jumps. It was a triple combination, each jump a vertical. She half-halted Ellie to balance her before jumping. Kayden mentally counted her strides. T3...2...1...up.EXT Ellie jumped the first jump perfect and Kayden got up into 2-point, giving Ellie a crest release. Kayden half-halted her again, rebalancing her for the next jump. Ellie jumped it good again. "Good job Kayde." Kayden finished her course. Her dad gave her a few more courses. "Ellie's doing much better." Her dad said at the end of the lesson. "Thanks." Kayden said, patting Ellie's neck. "You wanna go on a trail ride?" Scott asked. "I need to get Blue out. (Blue is his black thoroughbred gelding). "Sure. Diesel would love to go on trail!" "Ok. Then, I'll meet you back out here in like 20 minutes?" "Sure! See you then." Kayden called, walking out of the arena.

Rilen thought for a moment, watching Kayde jump. She looked down and decided to rid Ex english. She walked him back before warming up and tacked him up in an english saddle and bridle. She then trotted him up to the jumping arena, asking a stablehand to det out a line of ground poles.
Riley rose and sat simply as she posted. Excalibur's gate was collected ad smooth. She sponged her reins softly and continued around the arena, urging him towards the poles. At first, she sat down in her seat, driving him forward over the poles, lifting up his feet. The spunky Arabian lifted his legs perfectly, circling back and doing it again. Again, she sat deep, but not too deep that the pressure was uncomfrotable. She picked up a canter and cantered a few laps before reversing and doing the poles second driection.

Kayden untacked Ellie, groomed her and put her back in her stall. She got some food for her and went to get Diesel out. She quickly groomed him and tacked him up and walked him out to the front of the stables. Her dad was on his horse Blue and waiting for her. "Hey Dad. You ready?" Kayden asked as she mounted Diesel. "You bet!" He said as they walked down toward the trail.

Riley trotted Ex over the poles again, and then dismounted near them. She spread them out so Ex could canter over them, and then mounted again. She trotted him over them again, now wider. After he did, she picked up a canter and circled him back to them. He stumbled a little bit, but picked himself up after. She tried it again, and this time he lifted his legs gracefully. She patted his neck and reversed him at a flying lead change. He switched himself oddly in the back and cantered over the poles.

Brooks put Cappy away and went to go get out Bizmark. There was a show the next weekend and they had some work to do. Brooks tacked up Bizmark in her jumpers saddle. She led him out to the jumping arena and put the jumps up to 3'6". She mounted him and started to warm up.
Brooks gathered up on the reins and pushed her heels down. Her trainer, Kelly, was watching. "Slow him down!" Kelly called. Brooks gave Bizmark a half-halt and got ready for the jump. "3,2,1!" Kelly counted the strides. Bizmark leaped into the air, Brooks released his head and leaned forward. They landed and cantered to the next jump.

Diesel tossed his head and pranced. "It's ok boy. We'll canter later." Kayden said, rubbing his muscular neck. "Hyper?" Scott asked his daughter. "Like always." Kayden smiled. "You want to trot?" "Sure." Kayden barely squeezed and Diesel picked up a nice trot.

"Hmm, let's try a few crosspoles." Riley gathered up her reins and trotted towards the first jump. Ex lifted his legs perfectly and landed. He was comfortable to jump, rounding his back and outstretching his neck. His mane flowed with his stride as he moved into a canter to take the next jump. Again, he rounded himself and cantered on. There was a two foot jump in the center. She decided to try it, and cantered him towards it. He picked up no speed, and jumped it perfectly, landing on the right lead. She patted his neck and took him on a cool off walk.
She stopped by Kelly who was giving a lesson to Brooks. "Kelly, hi. I heard there's a show soming up...I wanted to maybe jump Shania? Tomorrow morning, could you give me a lesson?" Rilen asked.
"Shania? Um, ok." Kelly said, keeping her attention on Brooks. Rilen shook her head, expecting no other response from Kelly. She walked Ex away and untacked/groomed him. A stablehand put him away.

The sky was getting dark, a pale grey. Rilen headed up to her house at the top of the stable which overlooked the horses and parts of the trail. She let herself in, not taking off her boots. She walked upstairs, and wnet into the bathroom. She hung a wash cloth over the door knob, an alternative lock(it didnt have one). She tured on the fosset in the bath tub and undressed. She gently set herself in, a warm feeling crawling up her spine. She soaked her sore body in it for a while before washing ehr body and hair.
Rilen got out and unplugged the bath tub. She wrestled her wet hair into a braid and got dressed in her pajamas: blue pants with the suprman sign on it and a black tank top. She slipped downstairs and sat out on the porch in her rocking chair.
The sky was an inky black now. The horses wandered around in the pasture, searching for scraps of hay, or even a hidden friend. She smiled, watching a few colts gallop around in a stampede, showing off to the mares in the other pastures. An older mare, Josie, shook her head and ate a pile of hay in front of her. Rilen sat up straight. That reminded her! She forgot to ride her mom's colt, two-step. He was one of the colts in the stampede; the one starting it. He was a quarter horse, full of himself and loving life. Her mom couldn't ride him any longer because of all the business at the stable. Rilen rode him soo much, he was practically hers. Rilen thought for a moment, wishing Two-step was hers. He was so young, so spirited. She wanted to have him before someone else had him. She couldn't bear his spirit being broken. She got up and walked inside. She jogged upstairs, brushed her teeth, and went to bed.

Kayden and her dad came back from a nice trail ride. Kayden untacked and groomed Diesel. After she was done, she gave him food, checked on Sparky and Ellie and headed up to her house with her dad.

Rilen woke up the next morning. It was early, but she wasn't tired. She got up and went downstairs. A note was on the kitchen table. "Bad news, call me on my cell. -Mom." Rilen frowned thoughtfully and dialed the phone. "Mom? What's wrong?" Rilen sat down. "Oh gosh Honey! It's about the horses...or atleast your horses. You know Kim Howard, the lady who sold Ex and Shania to you?" Her mom asked. "Yes, I know Kim," Rilen said. "Well, she wants them back. And she won't stop without putting up a fight. She's offering a great price though. $3000 for each!" Her mom said. "What? That-she-she can't. Mom?" Rilen felt a rush of tears. Her cheeks were flushed and her stomach churned. "Honey, she's picking them up today. But with that money, we can buy you a new horse. We'll go look today when I get home...okay? I'm sorry Riley, but we don't want to stir up trouble with these problems going on already. We'll move on." Her mom said. "Yeah, ok." Rilen lied. She hung up and sobbed into her pillow in her room.

RIDER> Name: Keaghan Loraine Bernston Age: 15 Gender: Female Appearance: Brown hair that looks red and fiery, bright green eyes, tall, thin, fit from riding Other: Single and looking
HORSE> Name: Onyx Whisper Breed: Thoroughbred-Akhal Teke cross Age: 3 Gender: Male Height: 16.2 hh Appearance: Jet black, no markings. Strong features of both breeds, lean, well muscled, sleek Temperment: Rambunctious, Wild/Spirited, Playful, Competitive, Posessive, Sensitive Other: Onyx is not owned by Keaghan, she takes care of him for her grandmother
Keaghan woke rather jerkily when her alarm clock went of, beeping shrilly and sending numerous strings of pain through her body. She rolled over with a groan, and punched the Snooze button. It was Tuesday. She had an appointment with her counselor today. Sliding off her bed, she placed her feet beneath her, barely keeping herself from tumbling to the floor. She was pretty good at making her landings soft, but this time she landed a little too much on her heels, and a small thump resonated on the floor. With a wince, she imagine the yelling she’d receive from her step-dad, had she thumped any louder. It would have been a good thing for her to have not thumped at all, but it was done and over with, she couldn’t do anything about it. After exchanging her bed clothes for her long jeans, a black tank-top and her beloved black high-top Converse, she exited her room and moved down the silent hall, to the bathroom. Keaghan first splashed her face with cold water, before squeezing some face wash onto her hand and turning the water hot. After patting her face dry, she put the face wash away. Being able to brush her teeth and hair at the same time was one trick she had somehow always been able to master -unlike just about everything else- and though she was pleased at the fact, she made faces at herself in the mirror. She stopped however, when she noticed her little brother watching her from behind, in the mirror, his tired face peeking in the door. “Hey baby.” Keaghan said through her mouthful of foamy toothpaste. “G’morning.” Brennan replied, blinking sleepily. “Mommy said you were thumping again, and she sounded mad.” “Did she say anything about grounding me?” Brennan shook his head, “But Gerald said he would ‘pound you good’, though.” “Oh. Well... thanks for warning me.” Keaghan spit her mouthful in the sink, done with her battle with the foamies. “How did you sleep?” Brennan shrugged, and entered the bathroom fully, closing the door behind him. Hooking a finger in one of Keaghan’s belt-loops, he rested his head against her leg and watched her in the mirror as she pulled her longer-than-mid-back-length hair into a high pony tail. She was always wondering at the strange red-brown coloring her hair had alwas obtained. Her mother said it was her Scottish and Irish bloodline, while Gerald said it just said it showed a rebellious streak. Either way, Keaghan figured her fire-colored hair would be something she’d have to get over. She then applied ‘a hole hunkin’ load’ (as her mother always stated a bit warily) of black eyeliner. Keaghan smiled at his look of concentration and then pulled out her dark eye-shadow. After applying the make-up so she had the shadowy look all around her eyes, Keaghan put her cosmetics away. No need for mascara, that was one thing her mother liked; Keaghan had always had a long, thick set of eyelashes. Keaghan shook her head when she thought about it, and turned to her brother. Picking him up and placing him on her hip, she turned out the light before exiting the bathroom. Looking to the master bedroom, she could see her mother and Gerald making out (yes, making out, Keaghan knew the meaning of the words) through their slightly opened bedroom door. “Good morning, mother dear!” Keaghan hollered, and silently gloated at the response she got. Gerald slammed the door a second after her mother had sighed. “Counseling appointment today!” She added louder, but still as cheesy-cheerfully. Keaghan tromped down the stairs, and twirled Brennan around before coming to a stop in the kitchen and asking the little mite what he wanted for breakfast. “Eggs an ‘hm, please.” Brennan said, and he took the seat Keaghan offered while she prepared the meal.
“I can’t believe you interrupted Gerald and I like that.” Marty, Keaghan’s mother said angrily. “At such a precious moment.” They were just leaving Keaghan’s counseling meeting, and had Keaghan not been “busy” playing with Brennan on the way there, Marty would have pounced on her daughter then. “That was hardly precious, mom.” Keaghan replied, staring out the window in disgust. Turning to her mother, she added, “Brennan here was having a gagging fit.” Brennan covered his laughing mouth with a hand, and Keaghan turned to him briefly enough to wink. “Are you serious??” Marty asked, alarmed and unbelieving. “Uh, yeah.” Keaghan said a little too emphatically. “Oh my...” Clearly, Marty knew not what to think. A giggle escaped Brennan’s mouth, and Marty’s face was then tight. “Alright you two, that is more than enough.” Marty pulled to a stop, and Keaghan opened her door. “Be home at a reasonable hour, Keaghan Loraine.” Ignoring her mother, Keaghan blew her little brother a kiss. “Wish I could bring you with me, but you have that dentist appointment. Have fun ok?” At least Brennan could get along with their mother; Keaghan hadn’t been able to since... since Gerald stepped into the picture. Somehow, something had happened. Nothing was the same between she and her mother. “I will. Mr. Dunkins said I can bring home extra lol’pops, so you can have some.” Brennan replied, leaning back in his carseat. “Aww, thanks.” Keaghan waved. “Keaghan, remember what I said.” Marty said, pointing at her watch. “Bye mom.” Keaghan shut the door and began dog trotting down the gravel road that lead to the stable. Why her mother had to have such a fit about getting near the stable, Keaghan did but didn’t care. Marty always insisted on driving no further than twenty feet inside the stable property, claiming she could smell the “beasts” from there. Keaghan entered the stable and stopped for a second to inhale the strong barn smell, before continuing down an aisle to a particular stall. “Hey Wispy.” She said to the ebony-colored horse, calling him by his old nick-name. Onyx Whisper extended a velvet muzzle to her outstretched hand and snuffed it expectantly. Upon finding no treat or anything of the sort, Onyx then returned to chewing bits from the hey net in the back left corner of the box stall. Keaghan stood watching the magnificent stallion for a moment, sadly remembering who the horse represented, to her at least. Last fall, Keaghan’s beloved grandfather, Grandpa Larson, had been taken away by cancer, and it being now May, Keaghan was still working through it all. Onyx Whisper had been the colt of Sir Galahad, Grandpa Larson’s oldest friend and teammate. The legendary stallion still lived, though he was old, and Onyx was meant to carry on the legacy of his father, if possible. Grandpa Larson was the only person who understood Keaghan’s love for horses, for he loved them as well, and he allowed her to visit him and his wife, Grandma Helen, at their retiring ranch anytime Keaghan liked. She had been present when Onyx had first come into the world, and he was from them on the most special horse. Onyx was currently boarding at this stable, while work was done on the barn back at Grandma Helen’s place. A tree had fallen on the old stable, and the repairs would take a while, so Keaghan had the responsibility of looking after Onyx during his stay at the local stable. “Oh, I forgot.” Keaghan said to herself, “I need to call Grandma today.” After grooming the frisky stallion, Keaghan lead him with just a halter and lead rope, to a close paddock, open and available for any boarders. Turning the big black horse loose, she watched him gallop and buck around the pen, enjoying the sight thoroughly. Hearing footsteps behind her, Keaghan turned to see whoever was behind her. It was another student, smiling at Onyx’s antics as well. “Hello.” Keaghan offered, not really sure what else to say. She had never really met her fellow students.
((The “other student” can be any one of your “already-made” characters; I wanted some interaction instead of continuing my own thing. Sorry that its so long.))

"Hey Keaghan." Rilen said thoughtfully, noticing her dark makeup. She realized she had forgotten to put any on herself. "Well ,I have to get to work, and I just wanted to say hi." Rilen smiled. She left Keaghan alone and went to say goodbye to her two arabians. A learge truck and trailer pulled in...Kim Howard. Rilen felt a rush of tears, but just led Shania with a halter outside the barn. She kissed her soft muzzle, feeling it for the last time. She headed to Kim's trailer.
"Hey Riley! There are my lawn ornaments!" Kim said, snatching the lead rope out of Rilen's hand. "Excuse me? Lawn ornaments?" Rilen asked astonished. "No use for these Arabians, dear. You'll kill em' if you jump em'. Lawn ornaments. Grab the other for meh'?" Kim asked. "Change their halters, those are mine." Rilen snapped. She strode swiftly to get Ex. "Hey baby, time to go." She thought for a moment, deciding her next plan of action. "Hey Kim! I'm not going to let you take my horses to use them for lawn ornaments!" Rilen yelled. She stroked Ex's neck. "They're not yours anymore, sweetheart. Besides, I might sell em' to an older fellow. Jon Michelson. Duh, but he's a bit out of it. Who cares? I'm here for the money!" Kim chuckled. "Yeah, exactly." Rilen felt her face grow hot. She changed the halters and loaded them into the trailer. "The money?" Rilen asked sobbing quietly. "Yesh, here." Kim shoved a check into Rilen's hand. Rilen jogged away to the stable and slammed the tack room door.
"Everything's happening so quickly!" Rilen complained. She was talking to her boyfriend, Logan. "Baby, I'm sorry. I'll come down there. You said you were looking for a horse though. My uncle has a young "lawn ornament", a bay quarter horse pony. She's small, but she's friendly. He's selling her or $3000, just your luck. I'll swing her by so you can look at her. K?" Logan asked. "Yeah whatevr, bye." Rilen sobbed and hung up the phone. The "lawn ornament" might not be such a bad idea after all.

"Alright, see you later then." Keaghan turned back to Onyx and watched him for a few more minutes. Then, remebering all she had to do that day, she brought herself "back to life", and she reentered the stable. Passing the tack room door, she heard the sound of someone crying. She wasn't posotive it was someone crying, but she did want to make sure, just incase. Pushing the door open slowly, she poked her head in. "Rilen?" Keaghan asked. The other girl looked so sad, and Keaghan could almost feel her pain inside. "What's wrong?" She walked over to where Rilen was slumped on a bench, and sat down next to her. Afraid to "scare her off", Keaghan only placed a hand on Rilen's shoulder instead of embracing her. "Are you ok?" She was slightly worried, not know what on earth happened.
