There is some sort of flute, I guess it must be Irish...and it usually appears in the Hobbits theme and also in the breaking of the fellowship...I really love it and I'd love to know what kind of instrument it really is. Hope somebody knows...

I don't know exactly....but it definatly sounds like a Celtic flute. I know Tin Whistles are used in a few songs, if that helps any. I really want to know myself, because they sound beautiful!

Yeah, pennywhistles are used several time! That's the one wind instrument besides recorder that I can play.

Oh cool....so they're called pennywhistles? I love that sound I gotta find a cd with music played with this instrument..... Maybe you can give me an idea for a good cd?

hey - yeah, im pretty sure theyre pennywhistles too - i play it too!! when i was at school, my music tutor told me that theyre called pennywhistles because thats how much ppl used to pay for them or something or how much they would pay for someone to play for them - i cant remember - its been about 4 years since i had music...lol an idea for cds...umm - check google and put in a search for celtic chill out or celtic albums... take it easy xTx

It's a Tin Whistle, I know that because James Galway(The Greatest Flute PLayer in the World) plays that in RotK and he's also one of my idols

It can be called EITHER a Pennywhistle or a Tin whistle, let's leave it at that. It's a really fun little instrument to play. I'd say look on Ebay or Amazon for a recording!
