That's a nice idea. And I agree, The Silmarillion shouldn't be made into a movie. There's no continuity, no single storyline thread. It's only feasible if they do one story out of it as you say. Or perhaps make a tv series or series of tv movies. Kinda like what they're doing with Dune. Imagine trying to make a movie out of the Bible, and not just one of the stories. The whole thing as a movie. Wouldn't work. The Silmarillion is in that same category for me.

The Silmarillion would be awsome as a movie, but way too hard. As you said, LotR spans 5 years, when in the book, it covers large time periods. Like, "and twenty years later..." how are you going to do that in movie form?
