In the first book Tom Bobodill (I think thats spelled wrong but anyway) gives Frodo Sting but now i cant remember how he got it in the movie. When they left out Tom in the movie it made a lot of things unexplained. Does anyone remember?

No in the first book Frodo got Sting from Bilbo, can't remember when though, and this also happened in the film.
In the book the hobbits got swords from the barrowdowns but in the film they were given to them by Aragorn.

Frodo gets his first knife from Aragorn on Weathertop and the Sting is a gift from Bilbo just before the Departure of the Fellowship.
