i was wondering if anyone else thaught that The Two Towers was the most important of the three books I am not saying that it was the BEST of the three but i think that it may have been the most imptant because The Two Towers is the second book in the series it is the developement of the whole story It isnt as exciting as the ROTK but it makes the connection between FOTR and ROTK, without TTT the story would be very incomplete, but, for instance if you read TTT and then ROTK without reading FOTR , you would be able to get most of the story.(i should know because i read the two towers first and then the return of the king before i read the felowship of the ring) I find this funny because if take a look, TTT is the least talked about book in the series Anyone else have an opinion on this?

you do get a lot of plot progression (no clue how to spell that) in TTT, but it's just as important as the other two. if you didn't read ROTK or FOTR, TTT would be completely useless. all the books are important. but TTT does deserve more credit.
and luthien- you can eat the cheese without the pizza crust, you know.

TTT wasnt neccesarily my favorite...but if you look through it there is alot of different pieces of the story that come together and it is alot more important (not exciting) than lots of people think

I don't think any of the three books is more important than the other. Personally I think each book is dependant on the other- that it is one story in three books. You can't have one without the other two.

You can't have one without the other two. I completely agree. If you didn't have one, the others wouldn't make any sense. FotR introduces the conflict, TTT develops it, and RotK concludes it. You need all three of those to make a great story and without one, you wouldn't have a story.

TTT is very important, imho, because it serves as the bridge or turning point in the entire storyline. It is in The Two Towers that much of the plotline, which was prepped in FotR and laid out in the Council of Elrond chapter, is developed-- RotK is 'merely' the climax and height of the story -- in the pages of TTT you have the tale fully developed and yes, I can see how you could read it as a separate book, although you miss out on the why's and where's...

I think to two towers is pretty important. If you think about it, If rohan hadnt won helms deep, the most likely couldnt have given aid to the gondorians. The middle bokks in a trilogy are usually the most important

it brings a lot together if you didnt have TTT you wouldn't have LotR but that goes for every movie of the trilogy they are all equally important, i actually like FotR best.
