Hallo everyone! I'm trying to compile a LotR trivia section, and I need some donations of fun, family-friendly, hopefully not-very-frequently-heard trivia. Camios, movie mistakes, rumors heard before the movies came out, behind the scenes, how special effects were done, Tolkien facts (that aren't already in the Tolkien section, mind you!), etc....all are needed! Please reply to this message if you have some trivia! Many thanks, ~Arwen P.S. Please don't do things like copying IMDB's entire trivia list, or J.W.'s LotR Fan Site's camio list!

For some common stuff you can talk about Tig and Cup (the games that Dom and Billy made up, and that, speaking of Tig, Elijah was so heartbroken to find out that it was not a real game). For a not so commonly known one you could talk about Alison Doody, who had to decline the role of Eowyn because she had recently given birth to her second child (daughter). One interesting thing I found out (while watching Viggo on David Letterman) was that Viggo had no interest to watch the Oscars which ROTK had 11 nominations for. His family, however, did want to watch it, but Viggo did not own a TV, so he called up his neighbor and took all his family there. But still there, he didn't want to watch, so he went in the back and tried to take a nap, but it was too loud, so he decided just to go and watch it with the rest of the people. David Letterman also said he was probably the coolest person on the show since Johnny Depp. I could say some more, but my mind's a bit dried up right now, sorry!

First Viggo wasnt the first person cast as Aragorn, steward townsend actually was but it didnt work out so they called up Viggo - John Rhys davivies is missing part of one of his fingers - they let Christofer Lee keep Sarumans staff after the movie - Gollum was not done with motion capture or key frame animation (they actually edited him in over serkis) - to do the scene with ian holm as young bilbo finding the ring they taped back his face and gave him a wig to make him look young - Minas Tirith was a miniture model but Edoras was actually built on a hill called sunday something, hill?, mountain? whatever it was (the inside of the golden hall was not on the hill but in a separate stage) - the sounds of the urukai attacking helms deep was actually made by a crowd during half time at a cricket game in New Zealand, they put up the words on the jumbo tron and PJ directed 10,000 people doing the urukai war cry - the golum model was actually partly desiged by the art directer who did borimiers dead body and they wanted him to do the same thing on golum - PJ wants to open a LOTRs musuem in New Zealand beacause none of the movie props have beens sold - well thats all i can think of for now...

I read that the dead body of Boromir looked so real, that when one of the people behind the scenes saw him lying on the floor, started talking to him. Offered him something to drink etc because he didn't look well... (Not sure where I've read it.)

after they called viggo for the role of aragorn, he son was the one that finally convinced him to take the job. elijah and andy serkis got to keep the two rings. the design of the ring was actually based off a wedding ring of one of the co-producers (or something like that). during meal breaks, dom and billy would play a game where they would run around the cafeteria thingey and try to touch all the tables in that fastest time possible (i'm pretty sure one of their hobbit feet came off. billy's i think). orlando bloom would drive liv tyler around when they were in new zealand because she wasn't that good at driving on the left side of the road. arwen was originally supposed to come to helm's deep (you probably already knew that) and liv tyler had to go through a lot of fighting training stuff. viggo and a stunt person (i think) would do this thing where they would bump heads together (i don't really get it) and then they did it to orlando and he got a really big red mark on his head.
well, that's all i can think of at the moment...

OB broke a bunch of bones in his body before the LotR movies and was told that he would never walk again. My mom told me that one.

Well lets see..... ~Viggo broke 2 toes, chipped a tooth and almost drowned ~Dom and Billy were actually sitting on a model Treebeard on bicylce seats for most of the TTT shoot (ones Dom described as 'the least comfortable seats in all of New Zealand") ~Sean Bean hated flying in helicopters and he sometimes walked up mountains to avoid riding them. ~Dom got a *huge* ( ) splinter while filming the Buckleberry Ferry scene ~Orlando and Billy first met eachother on the flight to New Zealand and it was Billy's birthday ~The man who applied Sean Astin's hobbit feet was named Sean Foot. ~The hobbit actors and Orlando did wild things like surfing and bungee jumping although they were discouraged from doing it. I think of more later. :-)

viggo also carried around the "hero sword" all the time (it was the really heavy one, not the fake ones). one time he was walking through a city in new zealand waving around his sword. some people ended up calling the police. (wouldn't you if a guy was waving a sword around right across the street from you).

Well i read in Entertainment weekly an interview with Ngila thingyson (head of the costume department) and she said that it was 19,000. It also says that they made 20 versions of gandalfs hat b4 settiling on the final one.

OB broke a bunch of bones in his body before the LotR movies and was told that he would never walk again. My mom told me that one. He broke his back. He was at his friend's house and to make a long story short, fell like three stories and broke his back. The doctors told him there was a very good chance that he would never walk again, but they operated on him anyway. In twelve days, he walked out of the hospital (on crutches). Orlando broke a few ribs during one of the riding scenes where John Rhys-Davies' stunt double falls over, pulling Orli along with him. And you probably know this already, but the scene where Legolas "snowboards" down the stairs at Helm's Deep was not a stunt double. PJ wanted to use one, but Orlando finally convinced PJ to let Orli do it himself. Sorry they're all Orli stuff, but the other stuff I know has already been said.

It was in the Lord of the Rings: The Making of the Movie Trilogy. I have that book.
How about the fact that Aragorn began as a hobbit called Trotter with an unknown identity, but Tolkien was worried that he would never figure out what his identity was? The fact that Frodo began as Bingo-Bolger-Baggins except after the Fellowship began and the story became more serious Tolkien decided to change it. Shadowfax was supposed to be grey, did you know that? In an early version of LotR Bilbo announced that he was going to be married. Can you believe that? I have more but I have to get off the computer! Namarie!
