I know what you mean. I kind of lost the feeling a bit too. I need to read them again.

I am currently reading the Silmarillion... so that should help some But in a way the appendices are worse... because when you get to the end of the timeline, the last thing it says is that Legolas and Gimli went over the Sea and 'an end was come of the Fellowship on Middle-earth.' Now THAT was the true finality of it all... knowing that none of the Fellowship remain... *sob*

Yeah. I know you all are saying that you can re-read them but it's not the same thing really. Sure you may get more out of it the second time you read it but the first time is speical and the first time you read about them leaving, it's as if they have just now left in your head and all the after reads will just be like looking back on memories. The first time you read it, it finishes and everytime you read it afterwards you'll know what happens. I think that's the saddest part about reading the end of any book. I feel that way because its like you make a connection with each of the characters in your head...you love them , you hate them, you argue with them - theyre like real people - like real friends and then you finish the book and its like theyve died...its so sad... xTx

Exactly! I never want the adventure to read, never want anything to finish... 'specially since the Elves leave and that just makes even worse for me!

I know what you all mean: I was so depressed after finishing the books! It took me to moths reading it and then: whoops, it's over... The same for the movies: everytime I hear Into the West, I cry.
I heard a nice quote after I finished reading: Finishing a good book is the same as loosing a good friend. (I hope this is a good translation) I couldn't have put it better!

Ok, ok, people, if that's the way you really see it, then do cry!!! But these tears are evil.... Nothing lasts forever.... even 'Neverending Story' ends!! (I never figured out how.. lol)

Same here. Afterwards you don't have much to build off of. You can make it up from there but it's not the same thing. That's true. I don't think they are evil. Just don't regret finishing it, you can be sad but don't regret because that's the worst thing you can do. Btw, I also found that movie boring.

Like they actually exist, then at the end of the book, they're gone. . . This sums it up. Call me crazy, but Lord of the Rings is like a friend to me. Then at the end of the book, the friend either died in a tragic accident(Boromir and Theoden), moved away(Aragorn and Eowyn), or sailed to a foreign country(Frodo, Bilbo, Galadriel, and Gandalf).
