I personally wouldn't change anything, it's a good story with the members of the fellowship.
Boromir need to be a part of the fellowship because without his death, the task doesn't seem so dangerous, readers needed that bit of realization that yes bad things do happen to the fellowship. But also good things to because Gandalf does come back, greater than before.

I wouldn't change any of the characters in the Fellowship. But I would add one more. My reason for that is because Frodo doesn't really count as a member exactly because he is the ring bearer and they are protecting him. I would add a female and have her travel with Aragorn, Gimli, and Legolas; that way the story wouldn't change too much.

Yes, it's good the way it is. But the idea of a female in the fellowschip is very interesting. It can't be Arwen: when Arwen was with Aragorn all the time the whole Arwen-Eowyn-thing wasn't there. A more Eowyn-like character would have been funny, or an elf. I still think it's good, no changes.

I love it the way it was, but I thought maybe they should have sent Glorfindel along with them... he would have been a VERY powerful ally...

I think it would have been nice to have had a few female characters in it, but i agree that girls just aren't as adequately built to fight/cover-that-sort-of-distance.(unfortunately) So aren't hobbits, and hobbits are in the fellowship too. But I don't think I would change something.

Yeah. And if it were an elf women it really wouldn't have made a difference because they isn't much difference in strength between male and female elves.

I still say put Glorfindel in the fellowship! Or maybe Elrond didn't want to take the chance of him being killed again...

I think I would leave the fellowship the way it was. Tolkien was very wise in picking those charcters to be in the fellowship and I would not want to change it.

I would not touch the fellowship, each member represented something good for the fellowship,
Gandalf and his wisdom Aragorn and his lineage and strength Legolas for his eyes, ears, and elven gracefulness Sam for his honor and faithfulness to frodo Frodo for his will agaisnt the power of the ring Merry & Pippin for their humor and strength for hobbits Gimli for his pride Boromir for his heart, it was in the right place
Each member contributed to the nine and the story would be so much different if any position was replaced... just my thought...
