lol. Anyway, I know. But it's like past 11 and I am so not awake and I probably won't be making any sense like I am now. So someone who knows (And who is awake) tell her. lol

There is never a defining moment when Arwen becomes mortal. I believe it's more like, after Aragorn dies, she dies of a broken heart. Elves can die of that, but for Arwen, she does not go to the Halls of Mandos like other Elves do, her soul passes out of the world. When Men die, no one knows where their souls go; the same happens to Arwen.
Arwen's life was not tied to the Ring. Peter Jackson just put that in to make Arwen seem more important. Otherwise, Frodo would've just saved the WORLD...but with that element, he, more importantly, saves ARWEN. I don't know why PJ put that in, but it certainly didn't add to the story, seeing how it was barely followed up on.

Ok I have one thing to say about the whole "Arwen's fate is tied to the ring" thing
THERE WAS NO POINT!
I never got why they did that it was kind of stupid really it didn't do anything to the story and if that's there way to give Arwen more of a part it didn't work Arwen is my favorite character and all but come on you don't have to overboard
P.S. I agree with Diamond on the whole mortal thing

Just want to say that indeed Arwens life isn't tid to the ring, but actually (not literally) to the jewel she gave Aragorn. Because she is great-...-grand-child of Lúthien she has to decide if she wants to become mortal or stay elve. I agree that PJ put that in the film just to make it a bit more dramatic....

ok, I know the question has already been answered, but here's my opinion. Her life isn't tied to the Ring, it's tied to Frodo. In FotR she says ' What grace has given to me, let it pass to him. ' So, she gave her life's grace to him. So as Frodo becomes more & more corrupted, Arwen's life fades away. But you know, that's just me. Bye!!!

I think when it says that Arwen's life is tied to the Ring, it also illustrates for the none-bookies the way in which the Ring has the potential to affect so many in Middle-earth: whatever happens to the ring, Rivendell and Lorien will fall and I think that in having Arwen's fate "tied to the ring" it gave a greater illustration of this in the films. I bet this makes no sense I'm tired!
