if anything, he was anti-sexist! that's absurd that people have called him such things! in fact, i can't think of any fantasy authors that would be even be close to sexist. grrr. tolkien created eowyn to be a "fighting woman" he obviously wouldn't do that if he believed women couldn't fight!

I believe Tolkien was niether racist nor sexist, and to say such things at all, not even have known him in person, is absurd. Even though some things in LotR and the rest of his book might suggest that he was, you can't jusge a person from the books that person writes.

I agree he was at that time of this world where black meant bad, white was good maybe that is slightly racist but we can't all just put that into meaning that he thought "black's" (black skinned ppl) were evil and so on!! ;D
