I am not sure if I want The Hobbit to be made into a film anymore... At first, I was really exited about the whole idea, but now I am not too keen on it After thinking about how much PJ changed in the LotR movies, things that still make me mad, like Legolas surfing in Helm's Deep and elves there in general... I could put up a HUGE list of things that I really don't like about the LotR trilogi that's changed from the books and if PJ make The Hobbit into a movie the same thing would probably happen then too.... Do we really want that to happen? Your views please:)

That's a really interesting question you posed. My thoughts are I'd still like to see it made. If it was done right. But in saying that, I don't think PJ did that bad of a job of LotRs overall, considering the amount of source material he had at his disposal. The Hobbit doesn't have as much to draw from as LotRs did. Not taking anything away from The Hobbit at all. As it's a book that is very very dear to me and I fully intend to read it to my daughter in the hopes that she becomes as enthralled and enchanted by it as I am. Anyway back to your question. Yes PJ did make changes such as Arwen being more prolific a character, the Elves at Helms Deep the omission of Tom Bombadil and the Barrow Wights. My initial reaction to hearing rumours of certain things being taken out or added was one of cynicism. But once I sat down and watched the movies I became drawn in and completely hooked. Now as for The Hobbit. I think I'd feel a little aggrieved if it wasn't made. I have reservations too, but I think overall it will contain the spirit and essence of the book. Just as the movie trilogy did of the book. No book based movie is exactly as it was written. That's just one of the many downfalls of the movie industry. PJ made a movie that the fans of the book could love and identify with. But unfortunately he had to cater to the mainstream movie goer, who will go to see ANY big budget movie regardless of what it is. No matter the changes that were made, I still love both them and the book in two completely seperate ways. The book will always remain in it's perfect form as it was intended to be read. The movies are just another outlet for our imaginations to wander freely through.

I'm the same as you, Frodo Baggins. At first, I really wanted it to be made but now...the changes they made to LotR were bad enough, I was so angry at certain things they did in that. I mean, they are still the greatest three films ever made but they could have been so much better in my opinion. I don't want them to spoil the Hobbit, it's so important to me being the first Tolkien book I ever read and I don't thik I could handle that being spoilt, like in a way LotR was...
But it's not just that Im afraid they'll spoil it, in some aspects I just don't think t would make a good film. A good children's film maybe, but older people who haven't read it but have seen LotR will be disappointe with it. They'll be expecting a great long epic and that's not what they'll get. Instead they'll have a shorter children's film with hardly any characters they know from LotR. As much as I love the book...that's what I think.
Sorry to go on but i just want to say that there is also the problem of casting. Ian Holm won't be able to do it but he has already been seen in the FotR prologue in the tunnels of the Misty Mountains, so it will just seem stupid. And I heard that if they make the Hobbit, they might put Orlando in as Legolas and Liv in as Arwen! If they do that I would completely renounce the film. Lol.

I completely agree Lady Orohisiel Rainyaviel! I think so many people will be extremely dissapointed by it! It is better as a book than it can ever be as a movie. And Legolas and Arwen? What in the world is people thinking? Orlando and Liv should never ever in a million years be in it! No, no, no, no! Ian can be able to be Bilbo in it, if they make it soon enough, but if they wait too long it will most definately be a problem

I agree with all of you, i hated all of those changes they made..i was REALLY mad when he made the elves come in TT when they NEVER did. But still aside from all that, i think that its better to have the movie made than not made at ALL! So i hope they do make the hobbit, because you guys know that even though u are very mad about all those changes in the LotR Trilogy and u dont want the hobbit to be made, u know that if it is, u will all go see it.

To be I think ;D
I don't mind the changes to LotR, a movie from a book should not be just a page by retelling of the story anyway. That does not make a good film *cough Harry Potter 1+2 cough* I'm more concerned about it being a good film than every detail being the same and if PJ's directing again I don't think we have to worry about that.

I have accepted some of the changes, but I do NOT respect them! Think about it, elves in Helm's Deep, Legolas surfing

The elves at Helms Deep was good because it meant people wouldn't think the elves just couldn't care less about the problems in ME and were leaving it all to others. And I liked Legolas surfing...

Liked it And it was good that the elves showed they care and blah blah blah, but it is wrong... They were fighting Dol Guldur in the north, and sending away their army to help men houndreds of kilometers away? I don't think so...

To be definetly... whether Elijah plays Bilbo or not. I have learned to trust Peter Jackson in his decisions. I mean... just look what he did with Lotr!

IF it is ever made (Hopefully not) I would totally freak out if Elijah was even shown for a second in it, the same for Aragorn, Legolas and Arwen, as it is just wrong. I think it would be wrong to even attempt amking it into a movie, as it would just be weird... And to tell the truth, i don't really trust PJ's decisions at all anymore. Some of the changes in LotR was needed to make a good movie, that I can understand, but some other changes made it totally wrong and should never have been in the movie at all! Tolkien would turn in his grave if he had seen it!

I really liked the hobbit. Basically you are going to want it to be a movie if you like and hobbit and you aren't (or dont care) if you never liked the hobbit in the beginning. The thing with how weird it is is because the hobbit has more magic and stuff than the regular Lotr trilogy.

Frodo Baggins, I agree with you so much! As soon as I saw Legolas 'syrfing' down the stairs I thought 'if Tolkien saw this he'd be spinning in his grave.' Some of the changes PJ made were ridiculous (sp?)!!! Where was the Faramir & Eowyn kiss?? *Sob* So no, The Hobbit should not be!! But if it has to be made and I have no choice in the matter (which I don't lol) I would rather it be PJ than someone else...I think
