no... i definitly don't think that! and she sais in the movie (the scene when she is talking to eomer) "Why should Merry be left behind; he has as much cause go to war as you! Why can he not fight for those he loves?" and that's the answer - she sais for those he loves and that's not just for merry - it's for her. she is fiting not for aragorn but for her kind and her people and mostly for her uncle.

Oh I'm sorry! I didn't mean to react so strongly. Was just trying to get my point across. And I think there was plenty of "I wish to die in battle" but not enough "for her freedom" it seemed more like for Aragorn but you could tell it was for freedom and her country as well.

it seemed more like for Aragorn but you could tell it was for freedom and her country as well. i don't think that that's the reason... i mean - she is a strong woman (shieldmaden of rohan) and she can't die just because aragorn had turn her down! she has pride and i think that she would fight only for the freedom of her country!

Well, in terms of movie Eowyn, I think she already knew, at Edoras, that she was gonna go into battle. Remember when Aragorn notices her sword?

I think it's kind of a mix. But I also think it's more for freedon.

I don't think Eowyn is too feminenne, I mean not more than in the books...

Was Eowyn too feminine? I don't think so. I think they struck a nice balance between her feminininty and her desire to fight and to do what her kinsman do to protect the people of Rohan. Eowyn was a very beautiful young woman. That can't be avoided, but she wanted to muck in and do things that men do, but it was never really allowed because of who she was. Was Eowyn in love with Aragorn? No, it was nothing more than a crush on a handsome older man, that was everything she thought she wanted. Put yourself in Eowyns shoes, and think to yourself if Aragorn came striding into your town, would he not take your breath away? Arrgh, and now my brain has just ceased up on me and I've completely rambled a lot of nonsense.

No, I know what you mean.
I think that, besides freedom, she was also fighting to prove something to herself, and to other people.

See thats part of my point, Raivynn! She didn't love Aragorn yet the movie was insinuating that she was in love. she we have read the book and we understand that it wasn't true love, but other people think she loved him. and thats whats annoying me, she looked too much in love.
Sorry, i'm a bit too....enthusiastic....about this. But Eowyn needed to be shown more vicious (sp?)
Well, toodles, Eonev ;D

Maybe it's just me, but I always got it from the book that she thought she was in love with Aragorn. We all know she wasn't, and after time she realised she wasn't in love with him. That's what I meant by a crush, they can seem very very real. Especially unrequited feelings, they make your head play tricks with you. Making you think and believe things you know deep down aren't true.
I don't see Eowyn as ever being vicious either. That's not who I see her at all. She fought because she wanted to prove something to her family and to herself, as Kstar said. Eowyn was beautiful and tough. Brave and honourable.
Just my take on it.

I agree. It was also to show herself.
I gotta agree with you there. It did seem a bit to real.

I was thinking last night and i realised something. unrequited love always feels more strong because you are playing the part of two. you have to love more to make up for their lack of love. and i think thats why she feels so much in love. Omg, did i just contradict myself?? ahaha, thats funny! anyways..... yes, she may have thought she was in love but she wasn't, but it did look too real for me.
