[glow=purple,2,300] *ponders* Kamakazee Elves? Something about that just seems wrong. Of course if you know you are going to die, and all your friends have died... why not throw yourself to the wolves? I mean espeically considering that Elves are immortal and he would have to live with those bad memories and nightmares for all eternity... unless it broke his heart, which is appearently something an elf can die from... *deep philosophical thoughts* [/glow]

is it kamakazee? isn't that when there is more of when there is a purpose to killing yourself - like scarificing yourself to achieve something else?

I knew as soon as the retreat was sounded that Haldir was going to die. I just knew it. My mom thinks it's really pathetic, but I started crying. But I don't think he committed suicide. I think he was so stunned by the first blow that he did not see the other Uruk coming. He had this look on his face like, "Oh, my goodness. I just got stabbed." I think he was so surprised by the fact that he was wounded that he didn't even see it coming.

[glow=red,2,300]not really... Haldir really couldnt do that its just not in him or in his culture to do something liek that... YOu mean if you read the books when he is in Lothlorien you can telll that he isnt that kind of person all the way!! Maybe it was just the movies that made him appeal as if he diid, i mean turning away from a uruk-hai when he is coming towards tou maybe he didnt see him or something?? anyways i dont know you can tell alot by what his eyes look like i mean he seemed pretty sad and errr.. i think its to hard to explain for me.. i just know he couldnt do something liek that..!!! SO I SAY NO![/glow][glow=red,2,300] i mean am not saying no just because hes my 1 of my fav. (besudes aragorn) hes just not like that so thought i would say that!![/glow]

I would have to say no... he had just killed an Uruk and was turning around to see if there was any more when he got struck . But suicide? Nah. Too much of a sensitive subject for PJ to tackle, I'd thought.... and he died not because he wanted to, but because he got struck by an Uruk and no medical (Is that the right way to put it? I mean there was like no healing herbs for him etc.) help, so he died .

I don't think he would purposely get himself killed. Most of the people that fought at Helm's Deep thought they would die trying to hold out for Gandalf and Eomer. So perhaps he thought he was doomed to die there. And also, it looked to me that he was very tired near the end.

No way. In the books, Haldir wasn't even at Helms Deep. None of the elves were. yeah so..the only person who would know why they made haldir die in the movies..would be PJ..since that never happened in the books..so if he tried to make it out like suicide..then we would have to ask him lol

I think I'm going to have to say no on this one. Haldir was FAR to sensible to commit suicide, and suicide means killing yourself through action on your own, anyway. Like Denethor. Haldir was slain. Maybe he thought there was no hope left and to die would be the next best thing to losing.

I think that he did commit suicide, in a way. he got so shamed that he was clumsy enough to get stabbed that he's just gone, "Oh my god! i'm a stupid elf that got stabbed. kill me someone!" and the nice uruk-hai granted his wish! Haldir's greatest non-fan Lady Eonev ;D ;D P.s please don't kill me!

a kamakazee was a name given to the Japanese pilots who attacked PEarl Harbor i think. It is a term now used for people going ona mission and knowing they are going to die. Or atleas tthat is what i think it is.

You'rre right, someone going on a mission to save others or make a statement, knowing they're going to die.
Like the stupid idiots who crashed into the twin towers.
