I'm glad that Tom was kept out too. If he was put into the movies, he would have to have a temptation to the ring too..and that just would make even less sense than Faramir having that flash of temptation.
I hadn't thought of it like that! Good point.

Tom's such a special character in the book, a very hard and difficult character to try and translate on the screen that either way would have just been a big disappointment.
On the other hand I feel every actor did their character justice and Pete did all characters justice... It would have been such a horror if they would have turned the characters into what they did for the animated Lord of the Rings movie, the hobbits especially.
I see the books and movies as two different things. I'm a huge fan of the books as books with Tolkien's story and storytelling, and a huge fan of the movies as movies (not as adapted versions of the books) with Peter Jackson's story and storytelling.
But that's just my point of view

Tom is something unique and if he had been included in the movie, it wouldn't have been upto the mark. So, in a way, it is good that he wasn't.

Well i never thought about it this way. I had always been sad theat they had left out one of my favorite characters in the mobies. But I guess ur right. Tom Bombadil would not have turned out very well on the screen. Also...It is one more reason why the books are worth the read even you have seen the movies a zillion times!!

I totally agree. at first when I was reading the books I didn't really like him...
I just think it would have been really hard to get his personally across, with out him seeming really stupid. but any way that's what I thought.
