Personally, I think the word "hate" is a little bit strong. With any character/person, Real Life or fictional, I try and think to myself "There but for the grace of God go I". If you think about it, none of these characters were bad to begin with. So, in a way, many of them deserve our pity, not hate.

For me "hate" is too strong. I didn't like Eol and Thingol, but I like all of the elves, so the're just not my favourites

Last night I remembered Eol. And Maeglin, I was never really sure whether I liked him or not .

I never liked Feanor very much. He was to proud and stubborn. Exactely, noone likes a perosn who thinks they are the best, or too proud.

Least favorite, Melkor, obviously. And Sauron is right down there with him. They were the kings of evil! Ew! Least favorite elf, well I haven't read the whole book yet.... but so far I don't like Luthien's Dad. I mean if he really didn't want beren marrying his daughter he oculd've jut said "no" and then had him taken out of their lands(though I don't really think he was being too nice to say "no" in the first place) but NOOO, he wanted him dead for even having the nerve to ask, and then for kind of back talking or stumping him (whatever)....J-E-R-K! though I think he finally relented. But in the begining he was jerk. I suppose I wouldn't like Feanor either, if he's arogant. Can't really say anything about any humans yet.... Hey...Melkor isn't so bad! Evil is awesome, if I do say so myself. But if I dodn't like one guy in the book it was....hm. I dunno, I kinda liked them all lol.

Hmm...personally, I wouldn't call evil awesome, exactly, because killing and torturing people has never been my idea of fun, but oh well.

Well, I can't hate anyone from Middle-Earth but I don't like - Maeglin and Feanor.

The elves I don't are: Feanor, Melkor.

Ya know, I didn't think that everyone would be saying Feanor. Oh well, well, he's my least favorite too. I'll put my reasons, even though the may repeat what other people have said. These are the ones I had before I read anyone elses posts. For one, his ego was too big, he got all/most of the elves in his rank in trouble, and his sons the biggest, he started the first kin-slaying, burned the pretty ships, and it wasn't too nice how he wouldn't show anyone the Silmarilli.

Whom do I hate?! No-one actually. But I really don't like Eol , although his personality could be the result of isolation. I think one should take all the characters as they are good or bad. Just think, what if Thingol would have agreeded to Beren marrying his daughter from the first instant? We wouldn't have had one of the most beautiful love stories? What if Feanor wouldn't have sworn to get back the Sillmarills? The Noldors wouldn't have returned to Middle-Earth. And the list is still opened. So, I don't hate any of them. They all played an important role in the story.

I don't like Eol either, he creeps me out. The thing I like about Melkor is that he's straight out evil. You're never questioning his motives while you're reading it like you are with some elves/men in the book that don't know what side they are on themselves. Feonor really bugged me when I was reading the book, but I can't not like him that much. He did make the silmarils, and if he hadn't then...well that wouldn't be much of a book. I guess I'm saying what Amarie said. I completely agree with you .
