Yes . . . many of these choices have been outrageous, especially those involving Keira Knightly, Brad Pitt, Natalie Portmen, and Hayden Christansen, all of whom cannot act worth a dime. But Luthien is a hard character to cast, and I can't really think of anyone who I would accept as her. Catherine Zeta-Jones is a thought, though - she proved in Chicago that she's able to use another voice, as well as sing beautifully. And, of course, she's gorgeous like I could only ever wish to be. And I don't think she looks too old at all.
Another Luthien canidate would be Nicole Kidman - she's ageless, erethreally gorgeous, and with a singing voice to prove it.
Much as I detest Eric Bana for starring in Troy, aka the worst movie of the century, I have to admit he would make a passable Beren. And Hugh Jackman would be awesome as Turin.
I think, also, the the actor who played Mordred in the movie Merlin would be an awesome Maeglin, or Eol if he's too old by now. Sam Neill I can see as Thingol, or maybe Turgon.

Agree TOTALLY!! I think it wouldbe really fun if the made the Sil, into a movie. But I know I wouldn't be satisfied with whoever they picked to be my faves(Finglfin-Beleg- .....) anyway I'm not sure really who would be good..

you would have to bring some actors from the LOTR in there, but i would probably nominate I don';t know who! But mabye they could get johnny deep to play a character!

If they ever made a Silmarillion movie (highly doubtful) or a movie based on one of the stories in the Silmarillion (more likely, but doubtful to happen) I'd love to try out for Nienor. Her character intrigues me, and I would love to play her. I really can't think of any other actors to play any of the characters because I don't think many of them have any Elven qualities.
As for acting talents, you can't base a person's acting capabilities on one movie, IMO. But I'm not going into that because it would horribly off-topic and degrading to the people in question.

As cute as Johnny Depp is, I don't think he has the look of Tolkien World, hahaha, I hope you know what I mean. But, why doesn't anyone want the movie made? I know that topic is somewhere else, and I've read almost all of them, so you don't have to answer I would love to see new and established actors for this, just like the LotR movie trilogy, it was fun to see what people (directors, producers, design team, etc) came up with, and came out rather well, don't underestimate movie makers, hehe ;D

bronzeoliphaunt you have some great points.
I think Isabella Rossellini would make a stunningly beautiful female character in it, possibly Varda, Melian, or Morwen... In Merlin she wore a long wig and looked divine! Sam Neill would be great too.
I don't think anyone could be beautiful enough to be cast as Luthien, bar Liv Tyler. Maybe they could alter her looks slightly and get away with it (hehehe), because Arwen looked a lot like Luthien anyway.
In any case, I also think it's a little silly just to cast (yes, I know it's only pretend) big-name stars, when, like those cast into LotR, there are plenty out there with much better talent that have yet to be recognised.
It will never be made into a movie because it's just not something you can make into a movie (rather like the Bible); only parts of it could ever be adapted. Beren & Luthien could probably be adapted, or possible the whole creation/downfall of Numenor...

*feels compelled to leap to the defence of Natalie Portman*
I can't believe people are slating her for her acting skills...
Anyone who has seen films like Leon and Closer will know she can act. Fair enough in Ep I & II she wasn't gr8 but that wasn't her fault.. those films were just doomed from the start.

Yes people, cant you just all act mature and stop slashing other actors/actresses, because there are over 1000 people on this forum and one of them is BOUND to LOVE the actor or actress you are slashing, so lets not get into a fight over this, ok? Thank you

I could definately see Sophie Marceau as Luthien. Perhaps Mel Gibson could play Feanor. He had a very charismatic air to him in Braveheart, and I think charisma is a strong trait in Feanor. Let's see... there's so many characters, and it's hard to pick actors for them..

I think that Liv Tyler is the better to play Luthien because she already plays Arwen and Arwen is like Luthien, same face, hair and eyes and same fate. For the others I think that unknown actors are preferable than the others. And to play Galadriel, why don't keep Cate Blanchett? ;D I think that Peter Jackson had a good idea to choose not famous actors;

Isabella Rosselini as Melian. That is a given, for me. She would be perfect.
Also, I keep seeing Uma Thurman as Haleth. d**n Kill Bill images...
Oh, and I'd love to see Liam Neeson as Hurin Thalion.
I dunno who would play Luthien. There is no one I can think of, though I could see Keira Knightley as Nessa. Not Luthien, though, no.
Edit: Undomiel, you read my mind! Isabella is incredible.
I kinda like the idea of Sophie Marceau, though I see her more as Nienor Niniel.
Speaking of Isabella... Susan Sarandon (her mother) would make an awesome Morwen, methinks.
