this part was never put in the movie... In Mordor, when Sam is trying to find Frodo in the tower, he comes to a dead end, and begins to lose hope that he will ever find Frodo. He sits there in the dark, thinking of home and then he starts to sing....it is Frodo reply to Sam's singing that enables Sam to find Frodo. I really missed that in the movie even the EE...I am so glad though that they put the part in where Sam looks up at the sky and sees the one lone star, way above the darkness....

I love the song, because for me, it sums up much of what the book is about, and what Sam is about as a person (or a hobbit ). I especially find the lines: "Above all shadows rides the sun And stars forever dwell I will not say the day is done Nor bid the stars farewell." quite touching. They inspire me. I've taken it to heart, with this silly little phrase on my stationary "Life is beautiful, for above all shadows rides the sun"

It is a beautiful song, like most of the songs in LotR, but this one kind of had a special meaning for me too. I touched me a bit deeper than the others, it's a real song of inspiration and, above all, hope, which is what Sam gave to the Quest, and to Frodo who probably would have given up long before if it weren't for Sam.

hope...that is one of the biggest themes in Lotr...that no matter what, no matter how dark it gets, no matter if we're at the last of our strength and we cannot see the light..."There is always hope"

That's my favorite song from the books. I have the music to it, by Donald Swann, and it's simply beautiful. I won't even try to explain why I love it so much...

I know. I watched that scene...and realized that though the song wasn't in the movie, that one scene made it up to me.

I was so mad about that, but it kind of gets lost for me in the sea of other things they left out...and added...like the skulls falling in the Paths of hte Dead...... I was so mad and j\yet was laughing at the stupidness. Where were the rest of the bones? Just skulls?

That song is so sweet and touching. You're right, it should have been in the movie.

The music? I got it in a book that was published back several decades ago. The Road Goes Ever On: A Song Cycle by Donald Swann. Tolkien actually approved the music, and it was played for him at his 50th wedding anniversary. It's out of print now, and copies are really hard to find...when I get my mic working, maybe I'll tape them to show you lot...
