That is true! I pointed this out to my dad the other day and he told me to stop finding faults lol. In FotR EE outside Moria when Gandalf can't open the doors of Durin, Pippin says 'nothing's happening' to Legolas but I don't think Leggy replied. Maybe he just thinks they're pesky little idiots lol

He doesn't speak much on the whole. I don't think it's really that he dislikes the hobbits. He might naturally think it makes more sense to talk to the ones leading the quest.

I think that being an Elf, Legolas doesn't seem to be the sort to "strike up a conversation" or something like that. It's probably just a matter of probably keeping to himself more than hating the hobbits, which I think is unlikely. If he really didn't like them, he would have been rather reluctant to go with Aragorn and Gimli chasing after Merry and Pippin, don't you think? Or maybe the hobbits just made him feel extremely tall!

he doesn't seem like the type of chap who'd find something to talk about with a hobbit...like the hobbit would say..."hey, it comes in pints! or how about those mushrooms!" and legolas'd would be like, "we cannot linger! a shadow under threat is stirring in my mind" and the hobbit'd be like, "yeah, and the salted pork is particularly good!" ha ha ha...ok, i'm being weird.

Legolas seems like the type of elf, who just gets the job done it the most efective way he can. But legolas does seem to have time to joke around with Aragorn and Gimli though: "Would you like me to describe it to you, or do you want me to get you a box?" "You look terrible" hmmm, I feel realy dissapointed now

i was thinking that as well...and when i watched FotR EE, i found a scene where legolas says something to merry!! it's in lothlorien and the "lament for gandalf" is playing and leggie is wandering around with the vase (i think)
Merry: What did they say about him? Legolas: I have not the heart to tell you. But for me the grief is still to near.
In the theatrical version, you don't actually *see* merry saying the line, you just hear it!

Legolas doesn't talk that much He really only talks to Gandalf and Aragorn because he knows them aand then to Gimli because he dislikes him in the beginning of the Books and then later he talks to him because they become friends.

I see it as - He's had all the years in his life to talk about anything of importance, so he "speaks when words are needed".
