Stormcrow... I have a theory on why that's one of his names, but it isn't a very good one... lol. I think that Stormcrow is one of his names b/c in Rohan, they think that Gandalf only goes there to bring them bad news, then he leaves again. So I think the "crow" part of his names is referring to the fact that he always leaves pretty quickly after talking to Theoden, and the "Storm" part referrs to the bad news that he always brings to Rohan. I don't know though, it's just a theory.

I still cant believe that neither saruman/theoden or grima could tell that gandalf was no longer gandalf the grey - i mean come on his hair is bright white! I could see it now. Grima - Gandalf theres something different about u... did u get new shoes? Gandalf - idk what ur talking about Grima - i know somethings different with ur white hair gandalf the Grey but what could it be? Gandalf - no theres not...

Where did he get all of his names from?? Doesn't he just have one universal name like normal people??

I think it is considered normal in Middle Earth to have more than one name. Stormcrow... I think I recall them saying something about that... But I don't remember what....

Another one of his names to mean grey. Also,I think Grima was insulting Gandalf, just by his tone of voice.

Yes it is one of many names.....each race has a different name just like people like Aragorn has many names like strider for instance.
If you notice most of the great figures in the story are know by different names by each different race, it is the same with great landmarks like for instance: the Drarrowdelf is also called the black pit which is called Moria in the Elvish toung

I think that changing the character's names for the different races and languages in Middle-Earth makes the book more interesting. I mean.....I'm sure if you went to other countries in our world.....the different cultures probably have different names for people like Bush....or Orlando. It's all part of their cultures, they have to make themselves independent from the other people who arenot like them....and one way that they do this is by changing the names for hings and people. In the book...even Theoden calls Gandalf Stormcrow AFTER he's freed from the spell, so I don't think it's so much a dis as a personality traite. When you think about it, Gandalf does always have some kind of bad news. He tries to bring hope to the free peoples of middle Earth(thats his purpose) but at the smae time hes very realistic. He tells his friends when there is honestly a horrible death awaiting them. He doesnt create false hope...just the real kind. So really he is sort of a Stormcrow...isnt he?
