Rachel waved to all her old friends from last year, and was especially surprised at how much the boys had changed over the summer. She sat next to Mary Pitt, a third year, and she folded her hands in her lap as Professor McGonagall brought all of the nervous first years into the Great Hall.

Hermione seated herself in between Harry and Ron. She didn't want Kelly to be nervous around Ron, so she began talking to him to keep his attention on her.
"So, Ron. How are Bill and Charlie?" She asked.
Ron threw her a very odd look. The carriage was silent the rest of the way there, except for Crookshanks' loud purr. When they got to the castle, everyone practically jumped out of the carriage, anxious to get inside. The steps were flooded with students as people made their way to the Great Hall.

Kelly looked gratefully at Hermione and weaved her way araound the students. She followed Stacy and Hermione into the Great Hall. They found vacant seats next to Harry and Ron. They sat down. Kelly was in between Stacy and Hermione. Harry was next to Hermione and Ron next to him.

((ooc- i've added to my character bio that i'm a chaser on the griffindor quidditch team))
The great hall was warm, and a relief after the chilly breeze outside. Jenn managed to reach the Griffindor table just before the first year entered. She at down inbetween Fred and Izzy.
Deciding this was as good a time as any, Jenn asked them,
"You ready for the new quidditch season? I've got to work out when we can train, but we need a new keeper and another chaser first. Anyone you want to recommend?"

Crystal ingonered her cousin and remained silent until she had gotten into the Great hall and had sat down next to her firend Meredith McKnight. Meredith and Crystal chatted until Crystal saw the first years come in and she hushed Meredithg and watched the first years as they, one by one, nervously walked towards the sorting hat.

Kelly watched as the first years walked nervously into the Great Hall. Professor McGonagall brought out a 3 legged stool with an old hat on it. The Great Hall fell silent.

Hermione watched with great fascination as Professor McGonagal placed the stool in front of the students. It began to sing. The hall was silent until it finished, and then errupted into clapping and cheers. The students fell silent as Professor McGonagal began the sorting.
Beside her, Ron and Harry laid their heads down on the table. She nudged them with her elbow.
"Come on you guys! This can't possibly be THAT boring, can it?" she whispered.

The number of first years waiting to be sorted slowly got smaller and smaller, until it was Lizzie's turn. She felt her heart in her throat as she sat down on the stool.

Rachel breathed deeply as the Sorting Hat was placed on her sister's head. "Ravenclaw, Ravenclaw, Ravenclaw", she mouthed softly to herself. She closed her eyes and awaited that word.
"Slytherin!" Lizzie got down shyly from the stool and walked over to the Slytherin table full of cheering students. Rachel did not want to open her eyes. She couldn't believe what had just happened.

Crystal watched as Lizzie put on the sorting hat. soon the hat shouted Slytherin. Crystal's eyes widened and she looked at her cousin who was smriking

"Oh no... that was Rachel's sister." Kelly said. She looked over at the Ravenclaw table. Rachel had her eyes closed. Lizzie was pale as she sat down at the Ravenclaw table.

Mary touched Rachel's shoulder. "Are you okay, Rachel?" she asked her. Rachel opened her eyes and replied a soft "yeah". She was in utter disbelief. How could this have happened.
The sorting of the first years and Dumbledore's speech had finished, and then the feast began. Rachel found she no longer had an appetite.

Crystal looked down then at Rachel. Rachel was plae and Crystal had a feeling she was looking close to the same way. meredith sighed, "i think we lost a good one to the Slyertherins, that girl." Crystal nodded, "she's Rachel's little sister." Meredith's eyes widened, "poor Rachel..."

"You have to eat something", Mary said to Rachel.
"I know. I just don't feel good." She took a roll and slowly picked away at it. It was the greatest feast of the year, and Rachel couldn't eat any of it.
"Do you need to go to see Madame Pomfrey?"
"No. I am just going to go to bed." Rachel got up and walked toward the door, keeping her eyes straight so that she wouldn't have to make eye contact with anyone at the Slytherin table.

Jenn was shocked. She had expected Lizzie to get into Ravenclaw. Most of time siblings got into the same house. And Slytherin of all houses!
'Poor Rachel', she muttered, 'and poor Lizzie.' She glanced over at the Ravenclaw table. Rachel was there, with her eyes shut and friends trying to comfort her.
Soon Dumbledore had made his start of year speach, and the feast had begun. Trying to get some conversation out of Harry and Ron, who were eating like it was their first meal in months, Jenn asked if about their holidays. The reply was another mouth full of food. Jenn rolled her eyes. She saw Hermione doing the same.
