Galadriel!
Here's a harder one; it's from the Silmarillion!
I flew to my love as a bird on the wing To bring him the Jewel, a radiant thing. Through shadowy magics we came to the Light To beg there for mercy and help in our plight. And mercy was granted, the Dark overthrown-- My love in the heavens has ever since shone!
Who am I?

Um, actually mine was Elwing, wife of Earendil. (He became the Evening Star.) I'm sorry if it was a bit too tough. When the Havens where Elwing lived were attacked, with the silmaril on her breast she cast herself into the Sea. However, Ulmo transformed her into a white seabird, and thus she flew to Earendil (who was then on a voyage), bringing him that silmaril. They came through the dangerous Enchanted Isles (hence "shadowy magics" : even unto Valinor, to beg the Valar for help for Middle Earth (then very much under Morgoth's dominion), as emissaries of both Elves and Men. (Earendil and Elwing were Half-elves.) The Valar were persuaded to come and overthrow Morgoth, and Earendil became the mariner of the heavens. Okay, that's my summary of Elwing's story (at least the part in the riddle). I hope that clears things up!
