Why does Legolas never say anything directly to Frodo other than "And you have my bow"? It just doesn't seem right. I mean, they're part of a Fellowship. Shouldn't they be talking? Or has my memory failed and he did say more than that?

I don't think he really does say anything directly to him in the movies. I noticed that too, I wonder why...

i don't think legolas is the kind of chap who has anything to discuss with a hobbit...although frodo was supposed to be a hobbit well-versed in elf-culture...well, i mean, i can imagine legolas saying "the trees are talking to one another!" and the hobbit would just reply, "when's second breakfast?" hmmm, not a lot in common.

I think it's probably because Legolas only talks to those he trusts, like Aragorn.

Well I think it's because of the way Legolas is portrayed in the movies.... Through all three movies he has this tranquility inside him. But I think that makes him somewhat interesting...he seems to be reflecting and do important interior processes. He only speaks when he really has to say something. I don't imagine Legolas to be a chatterbox who argues with Pippin about second breakfast:P And the way he's done in the movie ye get an idea of how light and maybe also a bit superior (sorry for that word can't find another) Elves are...
But of course I understand. Ye would've loved to have more Legolas dialogue;)
And yes....I can't imagine Orlando's singing either ;D

It was probably because adding more conversation that wasn't VITAL to the plot would have made the films longer, and I'm sure they had a lot of great stuff that they would have rather went in than a conversation between two people who, to my memory, don't really talk to each other in the book. Also, Legolas is generally accepted as the member of the Fellowship would contributes the least overall. (sorry guys, but the others do do more...)He's not as an important character for Frodo to develop a relationship with. It's the Frodo-Sam, and the hobbit friendships that are important, and Gandalf is important to Frodo as well, and Aragorn because he's well... he's Aragorn, and Boromir because of the whole he-wants-the-ring-thing. Legolas and Gimli would make it too complicated... ( ;)Frodo has his mates, and the people he admires, and the person he doesn't get along with... why would he need Legolas... ?)
