This is a thread to talk about Rohan, its land and its culture, especially the love of horses. Can anyone help me with this topic? I love Rohan, and I appreciate their culture because they take care of their horses and I like their speech. Can anyone speak a bit? Pengolwen

If I could choose any Middle Earth culture to be apart of, it would definately be Rohan... well besides maybe Hobbit culture because it is fasionable to be fat and lazy But anyways, I'm not necesarily a horse person, not that I dont like them, but I think their simplistic lifestyle is cool. Their art (at least in the movie) is really cool too, and Eowyn kicks buttttttt!

Their art? I've never seen any art in the moviem Jenny- unless you mean ROTK. (I havn't seen ROTK yet. AAAAAAAAAARRRG!) Eowyn is definately one of my favorite characters outside of the Fellowship (every one of 'em, they're by all-time favorites, even if there aren't any girls. I say, so what?). But it's not just Eowyn. Most of my out-of-the-Fellowship favorites are from Rohan. Theoden, Eomer, Eothain (the little boy in the movie, not the Rohirrim guy in the book!).... Then there's Faramir, Galadriel, Elrond, Rose Cotton, and Saruman, of course, but this isn't a topic about them, is it? I love Rohan without even loving horses, like Jenny. it's a great place and (in my opinion) the one thing besides Gollum that PJ did right in TTT!

NO ART IN THE MOVIES! There was a ton. If you watch the special features on TTT extended version it shows just how in depth they went in the golden hall. All those hand made tapastries and carved colums (i thought it was a bit much for a 10 minute segment of the movie). But im a gondor guy myself - Minas Tirith just looked so much more advanced versus Edoras to me.

Ah. Rohan. Lovely language! I know some Rohirrim myself! ;D Here's some: athelas (Kingsfoil. ) means 'noble leaf'. simbelmyne (another flower) means 'ever mind' lathspell (remember Grima saying that? "Lathspell I name you." ) means 'evil news' I know more but I have a pounding headache ( ) and can't think.

No, Alatariel, "Lathspell" actually means "ill-news", not "evil news", but that's okay. Hey, I've only seen TTT (not the extended version, either) two times, and the first time I was actually sneaking to watch it; I really didn't pay attention to the art. I was actually too nervous. I thought my mom would pop in with an axe any minute. I've been trying to get my brother to borrow the extended versions of FOTR and TTT from his friend, but that might be a while. Right now I just really really really wish my parents would finally go and buy ROTK already (IT CAME OUT YESTERDAY AT GIANT EAGLE!!! WHY DIDN'T THEY RESERVE A COPY?? WHY? WHY??) , so I can fianlly watch it!

I always thought it was ill-news too and then I looked at the language book Tolkien had and it said evil news and I was like, "What!?" But since it was in the official book I edited my message and put that.

Rohan is my favourite territory of Middle-Earth. I love Meduseld, is so beautiful and I would love to live in Edoras.

I think Rohan attracts so many people because it is so wild and free-- and the Rohirrim's use of horses somehow symbolizes this vividly While the people are, compared to the Gondorians and the Elves, uneducated, they have developed their own culture full of wild tales that anyone can tell around a campfire at night. Their attitudes and the culture they have develop reflect their lives and the land in which they have chosen to live. They are as freeloving and determined as the wild lands through which they roam on their spirited horses.

athelas (Kingsfoil. ) means 'noble leaf'. Last time I checked athelas was a Sindarin name. I may be wrong. I love Rohan it isn't my favorite part of Middle-Earth but it is my favorite human part cause they love horses and I love horses.

I was really annoyed that they dismantled Edoras. I know it wasn't in a practical location, and the agreement that they could build it there was prob. based on that they dismantled it afterwards. However, i would have loved to go see it! I wasn't all that happy with TTT as a movie, but how the Rohirrim were portrayed was really cool!
