I've heard rumors that PJ's gonna do it after the King Kong re-make, but I'm not that sure...

I heard he decided not too. But now he's going to do it again thanks to Ian McKellen! ;D

I've heard that he is first going to do a King Kong Re-make, 'cause that's why he started directing. And then, I think, he might make a film out of the Hobbit. Because of Ian McKellen's eager. Gotta read that book again.

Considering Ian Holm's Bilbo is sixty years older in LotR than in the Hobbit, they shouldn't have too hard a time trying to find an actor that looks a bit like him.

**sulks** It just won't be the same with a different Bilbo. Besides, he's supposed to look the same. Well-preserved, remember?

i suppose they could make him look younger, but it would be a lot of bother.

I think I'm the only Tolkien fan in the world who doesn't want PJ to make The Hobbit! I can't see how it will work: first of all, the movie fans would be expecting something like LotR. The Hobbit is nothing like LotR! It's intended for a much younger audience, and has a much lighter mood. So one of two things could happen: A) PJ goes with the mood Tolkien set, and all the critics will be bewildered about how different it is, or B) PJ makes The Hobbit into an LotR-ish epic, and the fans of the book will be fuming.
Of course, I'd like to see Andy and Ian M. in their roles, but there's the question of who would play Bilbo. Ian H. is definitely out of the question, b/c Bilbo is supposed to be the same age that Frodo was when he left the Shire. Ian H. will never look Elijah's age!
So...I welcome any points that will make me consider the advantages of making The Hobbit (besides more money for New Line), but right now I don't see any, except that if they make The Hobbit, they won't embark on their insane idea to make up a story about what happened between The Hobbit and LotR, or what happened after LotR.

No, Arwen, you arent alone on that... the Hobbit is definately a LOT different from LotR... I like it now that I read it after reading LotR, but when I read it for the first time, the only part I liked was Gollum... I dont think its as "loveable" as LotR, and I'm kinda afraid that it will kill LotR (not in my mind! but in non obsessee minds) if they make it... but i dunno...
