I agreed with most of Peter Jackson's interpretations of the places in LOTR, but for some reason Lothlórien never quite felt right. It seemed to me to be a wee bit dark and almost intimidating, rather than a place of refuge and "golden light". Does anyone else feel this way? I really would have liked it better if that beautful golden light that you catch just a glimpse of at the beginning of the Lothlórien scenes was kept throughout all the scenes....just a personal opinion. Comments, anyone?
Or maybe it's just me, but nothing to me is so beautiful as golden sun rays........maybe that's why.

i see your point. i think lothlorien was a little freaky too(as was galadriel, in my opinion), but i think PJ did a good job at creating an other-worldly place... you probably thought it was too dark because the majority of the scenes in lothlorien take place at night. the short scenes of the fellowship in the day time shows lothlorien to be more golden...but yeah, i see where you're coming from.

I agree. It's just not how I pictured it... I think PJ did a great job, but I would have done it a little differently. Oh well, it was still very good...

I think it's dark becuase it is night time. But when the fellowship gets there and when it leaves, it all seems so gold, so light. Well, that's just my humble opinion...

i like that part...it definately seems more "light-filled" in the day time...i guess it would be hard to portray a golden wood at night.

I quite agree. When I read the chapter in the book, I saw everything bright green, and gold. Not at all like the movie. It could have been better, but I was digging the bluish tinge everywhere...

Yeah, I know it supposed to be at night, but what bothered me was that PJ mostly showed scenes at night, therefore most of Lothlórien's scenes were dark. But I still think he did a fantastic job!!

Yea i agree, when i read it in the book, It seemed way more "lighter" especially whenever Galadriel was singing her farewell song. But i think that in the movie it just seemed the way it did, is because its a very "mysterious" place and many people believe that Galadriel is a witch, but in all reality its very beautiful and light..it just is portrayed that way, but i think he did it like that because of the mystery in Lorien.

I think Lothlorien was beautiful in the film, but I agre that it was different that how I imagined it in the book. The film Lorien was more intimidating, like it would make visitors there feel nervous more than safe. To me, it was a mysterious, archaic beauty, like that of Galadriel herself, appearing unnerving and beautiful on the outside yet inside really safe and kind. That's just me...

It was very beautiful and during the mirror scene it fit but yes they should have made it brighter and greener. Because in the book they describe it as bright and flowers. There was only one picture that really met my description. But it was beauttiful and definetly my favorite part.

I think that this shot seemed like the Lothlorien out of the book. When I saw it in the extended cut, it just seemed to me to be right out of the book, almost like a drawing or something. I love the lighting. It just seemed perfect - I wish there was more of that in the movie! I do like the night lighting, I think it's beautiful and lends a nice touch of mystery. But I still wish there was more of the 'golden wood' to the scenes as well.

I remember my first thought when I saw FOTR in the cinema for the very first time: Oh look, they recicled the trees of the Ewoks! But I really love the EE version of Lothlorien and I got used to the Ewok trees.
