That would work depending on how long it was.

it doesn't matter how good you are! I can't really write either. You could give it a shot and see how many like it.

That would work depending on how long it was. The prologue is, like, not even one page. The whole story, however, is about 45 pages, so I won't enter that . It won't make too much sense, as it's mostly dialogue, but it's the only thing I have that's short enough .

Here: Will hammered the last piece in place. Setting his tools down, he stood up and stretched. He had been up all night repairing a jail cell that had been damaged in a recent attack on the port. “You finally done making all that racket?” the young woman in the other cell asked. Will shot her a look. “I wouldn’t be here in the first place if your ship hadn’t blasted our town with your cannons. The woman shrugged as though it made no difference. “As a matter of fact,” he continued, “you probably wouldn’t be here either”. She rolled her eyes. “No, probably not. Brilliant observation, though. It doesn’t really matter. I’ll get out of here…somehow.” She gave him a meaningful look. “No,” he said before she could ask. “No what?” she asked innocently. “No I’m not helping you,” he replied. “Why not?” “Because I promised my wife I would stay out of trouble while she’s away. Besides, I’ve learned my lesson about helping pirates.” She cocked her head. “Who said I’m a pirate?” she said. “A lucky guess,” he said, picking up his tools. “If you’ll excuse me, I really need to get back to my shop.” As he climbed the stairs, he heard her mutter, “I will get out.” Not too good . it would make a lot more sense if you read the whole thing.

Well, lol my story is a page on Microsoft Word so I hope that counts.
My tale is based upon Greek and Roman method of naming flower after significat tragic deaths and the like. An example would be the tale of Narcissus. Narcissus was a beautiufl lad who refused to fall in love with any maiden. The goddess Nemesis made him fall in love with his reflection in a pool. He woudl not look away from his reflection and so he died. A lovely flower bloomed on the spot where he died and it was named after him. You can read more of this and other stories in the book "Mythology" by Edith Hamilton.
Well anyways, on to my story. NOTE: Then name Arien is just councidental, the elvish meaning of it matched her appearance and it sounded greek like so I used it.
PANSY
In a woodland realm far off in hill-country, there lived a man by the name of Aphroshne. He was the son of a farmer and therefore took up his fathers work after his passing. He wedded the daughter of a merchant by the name of Dione.
There marriage was blessed with a daughter; strong and bold. She had hair as dark as a river at night and skin of palest gold; and eyes dark and fiery. They named her Arien.
No less than a year later, Dione bore him a son. Yet he was a weak, delicate creature. Many times his mother could be heard: “Oh Pansy my sweet why do you cry so?” she murmured softly. Though frail and fragile he was; he was a fair boy. Skin of whitest snow and hair as pale as sweet straw; he shimmered in the night like a luminescent star. He was named Pan; after the God of fear.
As youths, even with their ever coherent differences, the two loved one another so. Pan was frequently seen in Arien’s care and the two were inseparable. Pan was a kind yet innocent creature. He loved to play amongst the deer and twittering birds. He took great delight in watching his sister dance, though he himself did not have the strength of body for it.
One clear morning, when spring was in full blossom, both set out to a near by river they scarcely visited. The most beautiful and loveliest of all flowers bloomed at the rivers banks. They carried baskets which they laden with sweet-smelling narcissus and hyacinths and violets and yellow crocus, and most radiant of all, the crimson splendor of the wild rose. They gathered them delightedly, wandering here and there over the meadow.
The afternoon Sun now rode high in the sky and Arien insisted that they be heading home before the Sun burnt his delicate skin, yet Pan refused to leave until he himself had a little white flower that stood out amidst the green and rainbow of bright petals. It grew high upon a rocky hill and was a dangerous path for him. Yet before Arien could stop him he had clamored unsteadily up the hill and was about to pluck the little flower when his foot cut beneath a stone and he tumbled down the other side of the hill. Arien screamed in horror and rushed to inspect the damage.
He lay motionless upon the rivers edge and blood flowed from his many wounds of were the rough stone had grazed his fair face. She threw herself beside him and cursed her lack of speed. At this the boy opened his fair grey eyes and replied: “No, blame not yourself dear sister. Farewell!
“Pan wait!” she cried. “I shall go fetch a nurse.”
Yet when she returned she found not his lifeless body, but a beautiful cluster of yellow flowers lining the waters edge; and they were named Pansies, after his childhood name. The Gods were kind and had favored the gentle boy. What happened after, we do not know. It is said that Arien perished with grief or withered away by the hands of time, miserable and alone. Yet ever since, one thing is certain. Never has there been a spring when the Pansy did not bloom.
~
Explanation: I choose the Pansy as the flower of this myth because this particular flower also represents a weak man or boy and as you can see I have given Pan the traits of a fragile boy and youth. I invented Arien as a way to emphasize those traits and make him appear even frailer next to a strong figure. The rest is just creativity.

Sure. Since it's a short story contest, it'll have to be just the prologue, right?
