Carly smiled and watched Syd open the presents. When the party was over, she left after saying goodbye to everybody.

Kali sighed and left the party after the others when it ended, saying bye to everyone. She looked down the hallway to her left longingly. It was almost sickening to know the one person she wanted to see so badly was just down the hallway of a building she was in every single day. After a few moments of standing in silence she left APO and drove back to her house.

Carly drove back to her house and unlocked the door. She walked in and closed it behind her. She looked at the clock and sighed as she saw it was 1 AM. She walked to her bedroom, and changed into her bed clothes before laying on her bed and falling asleep.

The next present was big. "That's from me and my kids. Robin helped me pick it out." Dion said. Sydney smiled as she unwrapped it. It was a big pink fuzzy teddy bear. "Oh! How cute! Thanks Dixon!" Sydney gave him a hug. "Tell Robin she did a good job." She went for the next present. It felt a little heavy. She carefully opened it to find a music box, painted pink. She opened it and there was a tiny ballerina spinning around while a soft lullaby played in the background. "That used tto be your favorite song when you were little. Your mothe would sing itt for you every night." Her father said. Sydney looked up at him, tears forming in her eyes. "It's perfect." She walked into his arms. He wrapped them around her. She laid her head on his shoulder. "I love you Dad." She whispered. He smiled and kissed her forehead. She moved back to the pile of presents, which had grown smaller. She grabbed the next one and unwrapped it. It was a pink baby blanket with the name "Kayden Michelle" on it, surrounded by flowers. "Weiss? You had this made?" "Yeah. Nadia helped me think of it though." Weiss said, playfully elbowing Nadia in the side. "I love it." She said, giving him a hug. There was one last present on the table. Sydney grabbed it and opened it. It was gift card to a baby store with the amount of $100 on it. "I didn't know exactly what to get you. So I thought you could decide what you wanted to get." Sloane said. Sydney smiled slightly. "Thank you." She said. And she meant it. "Thank you everyone. This meant so much to me." She tried not to think of Vaughn. "Well now that all the presents are openedm let's get to the cake!" Weiss exclaimed.

Kali walked up to her door and unlocked it and walked inside. She set down her stuff on the counter and walked up to her room. She changed into some different clothes and crawled into bed after turning off all the lights.

Hours later, in the middle of the night. After Sydney's baby shower, and after everyone else has left APO...
Sark was awoken from his sleep by a pencil beam light being shone into his eyes. His retinas began to sear, and his vision burned back to yellow stripes as he was thrusted onto his right side and held there by a knee on his thigh and a hand on his shoulder. His hands were chained to the prison bed by handcuffs, as were his legs. There were two people above him, and they must have chained him up before he had woken up.
"Hold him still." Sark recognized the harsh voice; it was Agent Bristow's. Then he heard the unmistakable sound of steel, it was a switchblade. "Put him on his back. Hold him still." Jack's voice again, the other man in the room hadn't spoken yet and Sark couldn't see their faces. So he didn't know whom the other person was. Someone's broad hands grabbed his head and twisted it firmly to the side. Sark could feel the blade that Jack was holding slice through the cotton of his overalls and into the tendon between his neck and right shoulder. He could feel blood surging from the cut. The knife moved further into the wound, and he had a wrenching sensation in his shoulder, making him nearly pass out as Agent Bristow pulled out something from his body and dropped it into a steel dish. He pushed ineffectively against the weight of the other man holding him down; finally the man released his grip on him and took off the cuffs from his feet and hands. Sark rolled onto his side gasping for air.
Moments later a cloth of some kind was pressed against his shoulder, and his hand was lifted up to hold it in place. Sark lifted himself up uneasily, trying to see the other man, but the penlight was switched off just as he lifted himself up. He could barely speak, and he was too busy fighting the pain of the wound to even care anymore about the second man in the room.
"Turn on the light." Sark recognized the next voice as well, Marcus Dixon. A bright light filled the room as Jack flipped on the switch. He had no clue why they didn't turn on the light in the first place while they were cutting him to bits.
Dixon looked into the steel dish and then looked back up at Jack. "How come no one found the bug before now?" Dixon asked. "It's a sleeper. It wouldn't have gone live until Sark was out of the perimeter. Marshall had a new gadget he had just recently made though, and I was able to find out that Sark had a tracker in his shoulder." Jack said looking down into the steel dish, studying the tracker.
"Who tagged him?" Dixon asked. They both turned to Sark, who had his eyes shut, and his head turned away. He was in extreme and crucial pain. "So, what's the plan? You going to stitch him up, or am I?" Dixon asked. "He'll live. I avoided any major artery." Jack said. "All right. I'll get these blood stains out of my suit and hope no one asks what we are doing pulling a tracking device out of Public Enemy Number Two before telling anyone about the device." Dixon said.
Sark eased himself into a sitting position to relieve the pressure on his shoulder as he looked up at Jack and Dixon. "Number Two? I didn't know I had been promoted." Sark said. "How many more bugs are you carrying?" Jack asked. "May I?" Sark asked glancing towards the steel dish. Jack showed him the contents of the dish, which was a fairly large tracking device. "I swear to you, I have never seen that before." Sark said, knowing they wouldn't believe him. "Want me to scan him?" Dixon asked. "I already did. I found nothing else." Jack said. "We could check him for scar tissue. Something that size should leave a mark."
"Why not dissect me now and just get it over with?" Sark said wringing out the cloth, which was now heavily matted with his blood. "I would hate to see your talents for butchery being in any way under-exploited." He said. "Shut up Sark." They both said. "I'll take this to Marshall, I think he is still here working on something. I'll see what he can find out. In the meantime, watch over Sark." Jack said to Dixon. Sark rolled over onto his side, retching. The pain was unbearable. "The hospitality here is wonderful, if I might add." Sark murmured. "Shut up Sark." Dixon said.

Carly groaned as the alarm clock rang. She shut it off and rubbed her eyes as she sat up. She threw off the covers and stood up, before walking to the bathroom, and brushing her teeth. She got ready for work.

Sark sat sunken in self-pity and pain. The constant burning sensation in his shoulder had established a periphery of discomfort and it felt like an eternity before Jack Bristow walked through his cell door again. Jack walked over to him, relieving Dixon of 'watching over him' as he changed the dressing he had put on Sark's wound. "I give you my word. I knew nothing of the tracking device. I certainly didn't give anyone permission to bury that in my body." Sark said, without demur. "The problem, Mr. Sark, is that your word can't be trusted." Jack said clearing away the first-aid kit and walking out of the cell leaving Sark in solitude.
Dixon came back a few minutes later; they clearly didn't want Sark to die on their watch. Jack returned as well about an hour later. "The tracker was a German tracker." Jack said to Dixon before Sark cut them off. "I hesitate to try your patience, but I should let you know I appear to be running a fever." Sark said. Jack and Dixon looked at him, and felt his forehead. "Where is the pain?" Jack asked. "My shoulder.." Sark admitted. Jack removed the dressing from Sark's shoulder to find that the skin around the wound was hectic, and enflamed. "I don't suppose you kept the tracking device?" Sark asked. Jack pulled it out from his pocket and showed it to him. "It looks- is there a piece missing?" Sark asked.
After studying the tracker Jack agreed and pulled out his knife again, as if to retrieve the rest of the device. Sark closed his eyes in protest. "I suspect the damage has been done. I have seen a prototype of this..." Sark trailed off. "What?" Dixon asked. "It was constructed in such a way that if it was removed without the proper procedure it would release a poison." Sark said. "Lethal poison?" Jack asked. "I'm afraid, yes. The prototype killed within the hour. I may be mistaken, but this doesn't feel like a quick death. Rather a slow and painful one possibly." Sark said. "If this is a trick Sark.." Dixon said looking at him angrily. Sark sighed, "What do I have to gain from lying to you about a prototype?" Sark asked. They looked at him skeptically until finally agreeing to see if he was telling the truth. "Is there an antidote?" Jack asked. "It didn't occur to me at the time to ask that question." Sark said. "All right, I'll get this to Marshall to see if he can find an antidote. I'm going to need a blood sample though." Jack said. "By all means." Sark said extending his arm.
After Jack took his blood he left the room, leaving Sark with Dixon yet again. Moment’s later Dixon's phone rang and he answered it to hear Jack on the other line. "Marshall is trying to find an antidote for it. Meanwhile, you need to keep Sark awake. We can't have him die on our watch." Jack said. "Okay." Dixon said before hanging up and walking outside his cell. He returned with a cup of water and sat down with it next to Sark's bed.
Sark lay curled on his left side, facing the wall. His knees were drawn up to his chest and his left hand was wrapped around his waist. Sark's hair was stained dark with sweat, and he was burning up. Dixon thought he was already about to be dead, so he put his hand on his shoulder and shook him lightly. "Sark?" He asked. There was no response. "You want some water?" Dixon asked.
Sark tensed, then curled tighter into himself, making a feeble attempt to shrug off Dixon's hand. Dixon sighed; Sark thought Dixon was 'sticking it to him'. Though he wasn't. He put his hand on Sark's neck, and immediately took it off because of the extreme heat that welcomed him. Dixon didn't like Sark at all, in fact he hated him. Sark was the man who had kidnapped his kids and done horrible things to people, but he had to keep him alive. He didn't want to be the one who had Sark die on his watch. "Sark, get up." Dixon said. Sark didn't move. Dixon sighed and eased him into a sitting position, and poured the water into his mouth. "Okay, sit up. Talk to me." Dixon said. "Why?" He muttered. "You sleep, you die." Dixon said. Sark grumbled and closed his eyes again, while sitting up. Why didn't they just kill him? He would rather have a bullet between his eyes then have to sit through this excruciating pain. Then he remembered something; he remembered why he needed to live. "Where is she..?" Sark asked. "Who is 'she'?" Dixon asked. Sark sighed; he could barely speak. "Where is she..?" He repeated again turning on his side and letting out a moan.
By this time it was already morning and Jack had already told Sloane about what happened, luckily because of Sloane's 'friendship' with Jack, he understood. Jack went to Marshall's office to see how his progress was coming along with the antidote. He also made sure to tell Marshall to keep the entire thing about Sark 'under-wraps' especially to Kali... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Kali awoke in the morning, and changed her clothes and drove to APO. She boarded the train, and after it stopped at her point at APO she got off. She walked inside the door and did the switches and walked into APO. She looked over and saw Marshall staring at her. He seemed pretty freaked out. She wondered what was going on, so she walked over to his office. "What's going on Marshall?" She said. "Uh- what do you mean?" He asked. "Marshall..you've been giving me weird stares since I walked into APO." Kali said. "Okay, I didn't tell you..but well- Sark has gone deathly ill and I'm trying to find an antidote." Marshall stuttered.
Kali stared at him before walking out of his office without a word and slamming open Sloane's door to his office. She walked to his desk and put her hands on the edge of it. "What is going on?" She asked. "What do you mean?" He asked. "Don't even tell me you don't know." Kali paused. "Look, either you give me the full details, or I go get them myself." She said. Sloane sighed, as if still not wanting to tell her.
"Jack and Dixon found out last night that Sark had a tracking device planted in his shoulder. We hadn't noticed it this entire time, because it was a 'sleeper' it wouldn't have gone live until Sark was out of the perimeter. But, given a new gadget Marshall had built, we were able to find out he had this tracker in his body. Jack and Dixon went to his cell last night and 'took' it out of him. They later found out, that the tracker released a lethal poison into Sark's system because the tracker wasn't taken out in the proper procedure. And now Marshall is trying to find an antidote before Sark dies." Sloane said calmly. "We still, however do not know who planted that device in Sark's shoulder. And Sark 'say's' he knows nothing of it." Sloane said.
"And you just thought you could keep this from me?" She asked. Sloane didn't reply. "Let me see him." She said. "I still can't do that. Director Chase made the final decision on that, and I cannot override it. Nor do I think I would." Sloane said. "Why isn't he in a hospital?!" She asked. "We believe that if we send him to a hospital, whoever planted the device in him will be there. Since they may know that we took out the device from his shoulder." Sloane paused. "And we are a black ops divison of the CIA. We cannot just send Mr. Sark to a hospital." Sloane said.

Nadia drove Sydney back home and helped her bring in all the presents and the leftover cake. "Hey Nadia. Thanks. That really meant a lot to me." Sydney said, as she set up the presents by the cradle she had set up in a corner of her room. She had a dresser with a lot of things she would need for the baby. "I can't believe it will only be one month." Sydney said quietly. She said good night to Nadia and got changed into her pajamas.

"Sark?" Dixon asked. "Mm?" Sark replied. "Just checking." Dixon said. Sark opened his eyes. "That I'm alive? Regrettably so." Sark said. Dixon only glared at him. He wasn't enjoying this, having to 'watch over' Sark. "You still did not answer my question." Sark said. Dixon only looked at him. "Yes, yes I know, 'shut up, Sark.' " Sark muttered. "Do you ever shut up?" Dixon asked. "I thought smalltalk might render this tableau less loathsome." Sark said giving him a smirk. Dixon did not respond. He preferred to sit in utter silence. He also wanted to know how even on the brink of death Sark could be so cocky and sarcastic. Sark's head began slipping sideways on the wall where it was resting. Dixon reached out a hand and propped him upright again. Sark began to cough and he spat blood out of his mouth. "You better not die Sark." Dixon muttered. A dry sound like a laugh found it's way out of Sark's throat and Dixon breathed a sigh of relief. "If your still being your cocky self, and laughing then I'm sure your not going to die anytime soon." Dixon said. "I'm grateful for your optimism." Sark said wiping off his mouth with his arm. Dixon shook his head at him, and muttered another, "Shut up, Sark."

"How are you're children doing?" Sark asked. Dixon's jaw tighented. "How dare you, you little-" Dixon said angrily before punching Sark. Sark was smiling as he held his head down for a moment before looking back up. He leaned further against the wall, lacing his hands behind his head and watching Dixon rather amused. "Was that off the record?" Sark asked. "You really are a sociopath, you know that?" Dixon said. "Yes, I've been quite aware of that. But thank you for enlightening me nonetheless." Sark said. "You're pathetic." Dixon said. "Marcus, I thought you would have had a higher opinion of me." Sark said. "You want my opinion of you?" Dixon asked. "Not desperately. But, please, feel free to open up." Sark said. Dixon glared at him, he wasn't going to give Sark what he wanted. He had already given him too much. "Just shut up, Sark." Dixon paused. "And don't call me Marcus." He said. "Very well." Sark said lying back down and closing his eyes.

Sydney woke up to the soft music of ehr alarm clock. She hit the snooze button and lay there for a few minutes. She finally got out of bed, every day getting harder and harder to move around.
