"Stay." Corwin whispered. They sat in the alley for what seemed like an eternity. The sky slowly grew darker, the streets emptied. FInally Corwin stood. " I will be back." Without another word he strode off into the street. After several minutes the sounds of a struggle came back from the street. Corwin came striding back with garments in his hands. "We will need these in the desert. They protect our faces from the harsh heat." He presented them with several headwrappings and long, flowing robes. The robes were loose and the turbans made their heads feel hot. It was fully dark and the stars were shining when Corwin finally moved them out. They passed through the vacant gate and out into the sands of Near Harad.

"Ugh." Marawyn thought. Not a desert. She hated sand. "Oh, well." she thought. She put the cloak on and followed the group.

Arva expertly wrapped the turban around her head for the greatest airflow, but also protection from the sun. The robe went on, and she tucked her other clothes in the sack. Her weapons she hid in the voluminous folds of the robe, though her bow was rather conspicuous.

She cringed at the robes but sighed and doned them. they were uncomfortable, but she needed to play along. Gripping her bow tight in her hand and lacing her boots a little tighter she followed.

Outside of the Gates, they stopped in the desert dunes. "A question Corwin?" Earenion said. " What will we do for food?" Corwin smiled and wordlessly pulled a bag of food from his clothing. "This should last us a few days."

rolling her eyes slightly she said, "I will catch you food, there will be plenty... in the sky" she grinned teasishly, loving the fact they knew little about her. in fact, as she spoke a bird soared above their heads.

Marawyn was starving and graciously accepted Corwin's food. She looked up and saw a bird overhead. "That's strange. A bird in the desert." she thought to herself.

She smiled. "O there are many, when we need them."

As they sat and ate, Corwin explained their situation. "We have a dilemma. To the north and east lie the nomadic Haradrim. To our south is the open desert that eventually leads to Far Harad and The Forests of Harad. I do not think we can go directly north through the legions of the Haradrim. We cannot pass fro their people. We may have to go around them."

"We should go towards the forest, at least there will be shade there! Shelter too, we need somewhere to think up a plan." she said her eyes glinting.

" The far south is no place for mistakes. We travel by night and take shelter during the day." Corwin looked out over the dunes. "Now get some rest. You'll need it. I'll be at the watch." As they settled in, he trudged up to the top of the nearest dune and stared off into the horizon.

Arva walked over with him and started to say something, but stopped. "Just...wake me when your watch is over."

He nodded. What was she going to say? He sat astride the dune and looked out into the nights sky. It is so clear out here on the desert. A pity it is never a peace. His eyes sparkled. Like an ocean of sand...

Marawyn looked out at the desert too. She had to admit it was kind of pretty at night. At least the sun wasn't beating down on her head.
