Silmeriel glanced down, startled. "Nay, my sadness is more than any should have to bear, one that cannot be lessened by another. Nay, 'tis my own suffering to bear until my time here is spent, and I return to my true home."

Melarë felt more at ease. "Yes, I am one of his loyal subjects- I play and sing for his court in the evenings. I venture out by day to seek the sun I crave." She looked towards her destination. "Yonder lies a hill amidst the dark forest where I often go." The wind rippled her hair a little, bringing the sweet scent of cedars with it. "My name is Melarë, and who are you? You do not strike me as one of my Elven kindred, nor do you appear mortal." Jumping from the low rock upon which he stood, he replied. "Hail friend. Came you from Thingol's halls? Or are you a weary traveler like myself?" His grey eyes were welcoming, calm and collected.

"Of course, my lady." Silmeriel said. "How may I assist? What news do you wish to know?"

Shrugs her shoulders and tosses her black hair out ofher eyes. "Anything! good and evil, war and peace. i have been... away for a long time. one gone that long in bound to know nothing." Her silver eyes gleamed as she heard, a mile away, the man and other elf girl talking. sighing softly she sat down at the base of the tree and listened to both conversations.

"What I am is not important. I just say that I am nither (can't spell) of the kindred. Of my name, here I am called Corwin." He bowed. "How goes it with Thingol King of Doriath? I have heard much of his halls from the elves of this wood."

"We live in peace, though we keep a wary eye on the doings of the Dark Lord." Melarë smiled. "Have you yet seen the daughter of the Elvenking? Methinks you will, for often she strays under the stars, but touch her not! For Thingol holds her above all kings and princes. O, that I might have a shadow of her beauty!" she continued softly.

"Luthien Tinuviel, daughter of King Thingol of Doriath, has been in these lands lately. Yet not even her grace and beauty bring happiness to the lands I once lived on." Silmeriel said. With that, she slipped away into the forest, walking unknowingly into the clearing where Melare and a man unknown to her stood conversing.

"Alas these woods are awash with maidens. Is there a suit going or hath there been a marriage festivel and you are the brides with cold feet?" He laughed.

Melarë laughed outright at this. "Nay sir! It is that we do not condescend to offer our hands in marriage, and would rather run about these woods than listen to silly lovers that vex us." She glanced at the newcomer, and bowed her head in greeting.

"Ah but then thou art truly a flower-watcher? Hast thou come to sing the birds out of the trees? For the sight of so many fair maidens sets my heart aflutter!" He cupped his hands over his heart and fell backwards heavily in mock death. He climbed to his feet and shook off the leaves that clung to his tunic. He glanced over to the scowling Kiara. His smile faltered and he straightened. He cleared his throat. "Perhaps this is not the best time for humor."

Silmeriel made as though to slip away unnoticed, to find solace for her tears in solitude.

With a glance at Silmeriel she sighed softly. "Nay, humor is best in the face of sadness." she bowed to Corwin slightly, and tried a smile. shifting nervously she eyed the others.
