This is what I posted on another forum and I think it summs up most ppl's views nicely: Quote:I love the elves because they are soooo graceful and beautiful. But I love the rohirram(sp) because they are more real life ppl then the elves(I know the elves are not ppl) Call me crazy but i think that they made Arwen a little too pretty. I think most people like Eowyn better because she doesnt have that movie star look that Arwen does. Miranda has more of an everyday beauty. While Liv has Movie star beauty. People relate to Eowyn more then Arwen. Plus Eowyn wears WAY better outfits then Arwen And I have the same colors as Miranda(meaning hair and skin and Eyes) And liv kinda has that annoying high pitched voice(sorry, but she does) My thoughts exactly, White Lady Eowyn, apart from the outfit bit(your decision shouldn't be supported by someone's outer looks, it's what's on the inside that counts). The Arwen in the book is cool, but I wish that they could have got someone different to play her in the movie. I just don't like how she actually almost leaves Middle Earth. I voted for Eowyn. I love Eowyn's character in the books; so strong and brave, yet very frail in a way. I also adore Miranda Otto's Eowyn! She adds just the right touch to the Eowyn in my mind. Go Miranda! ;D And Hobbits4Ever also has a very good point:I love that scene with Arwen and Aragorn, but I just feel like it was kind of pointless to put in the movie. I would have preferred them to cut it out and put it somewhere on the appendices in the EE edition. Ea posted:I don't like this scene, and what they did to Arwen in it. Arwen is not an elf who fights with swords against all nine ringwraiths. She does not have the strength. Not to say that she isn't strong, but it's just like what Glorfindel said in FotR.

lol. No but I really do love them all equally. I will admit though that I am a bit of a Galadriel fan. I'm glad to see another Galadriel fan, Arien. ;D Honestly, this thread is starting to get quite pointless. That is what I don't like about these kind of threads. We are never going to decide. The purpose of the thread shouldn't even be about deciding. And, White Lady Eowyn, no one is better, people have different views. I state my views, but I never say that anyone is better, for this is very untrue. Everyone has their own individual opinion.

I'm not picking on you White Lady Eowyn, I'm just saying something in general.
Judging someone by how they dress and what there voice sounds like isn't very realistic. And everyone looks different And the looks of Arwen and Eowyn are different and so is the way they were raised and their atmosphere and race.
Big or small the deed, both Arwen and Eowyn made a big impact on the course of the future.
Me too! I'm glad she's not caught up in this mess.
I think the problem is that using the word better isn't right at all. Instead we should say "I prefer" or "my favortie is" There really is no best.

I do not mean to be rude, but do you ppl not get that I was kidding!?! It was a joke! I find it rediculous that you ppl are going on and on, about a comment I made on MY OWN PERSONAL VIEWS! My Views i did not demand you must agree wiht them! I am allowed to state them the same as you are. I shared my views on why I like Eowyn more then Arwen, and I made a joke about their clothing! At least I made a point! I didnt just say, "Arwen is a sissy and Eowyn is brave so I like her better" like some ppl do! I made a point, -wich as many ppl have said-, made perfect sence. So dont tell me that I cant campare them on their clothes! I didnt! Read all the posts before posting on something you dont like! Please! Again, no one be offended by this, I am not trying to be mean, just trying to make you understand.

White Lady Eowyn I agree with everything you have said. Including the bit about clothes and Liv's voice lol. That's not why I like Eowyn better than Arwen but I think that it's true:P I just love Eowyn and Miranda Otto. I think that Miranda played Eowyn so unbelievably well and I can not see anyone else in her place. So it's probably unfair of me to pick Eowyn because the truth is the only thing I really don't like about Arwen is what the movie did with her. The posters and commercials made it out like she was this really really important character in the movie. I'm not denying that she's an important part of the story but they exagerated her role way too much. You'd think that she was actually in the book more than twice. I just love Eowyn and I'm finding it difficult right now to explain why because I'm horrible at explaining things. She wanted to fight for her people and the fact is that if she was in the same position as Arwen she would give up her immortality as well. And I love that she believed in Merry when no one else did, and we can't forget that if it wasn't for her Merry never would have gotten to Gondor She's very brave and she's my favorite character in the books and movies.

I like Eowyn more, because I can relate to what she is going through.
Love sick- SHe loves Aragorn but he doesnt love her back, I can relate to that. Not being able to be who she wants- I can relate to that. Every one expects you to be one person when thats not what you want to be Lonely- I can sooooooo see what she is going through
Where Arwen not many ppl go through what she does.

The same is true to me, except the fact that Liv Tyler's Arwen doesn't have the elves' ageless appearence. You can actually guess her age, when with most of the other elves in the movie(excluding Orlando) you can't guess.

No I don't think your being rude but like you said we are allowed to post are views on the matter just as you are. And if we do comment on your personal views it shouldn't be a big deal because that's kind of what we're suppose to do. No, you are right we don't have to agree with them but we are allowed to post are views on it. No we never said you can't compare them of their clothing because you have all right to do that but even you have to agree on this one that judging someone by how the dress isn't exactly the right, now I know it was just a joke but I was just making that clear. I'm really not on any side of this conversation because I prefer Galadriel and she is not included in this discussion. I'm not bashing you are anything, please don't think that! I was just writing my opinion and you may think whatever you wish of it.
I can see why you like Eowyn more though because she is probably the one character that we are most relatable to and is closer to our own time of thinking and conflicts of emotion.
Yes I see your point but they did that because, think of it this way: If Arwen just showed up at the end of ROTK people who are not familiar with the books would be confused. So they had to make her more familiar to audiences.
Actually, though small may be her part, she is a crucial part of the future of Middle-earth, for without her there is no hier to the throne of Gondor and so the line of high kings would die and Elrond himself said that if she did become mortal she would play a big part (It's in the Tale of Aragorn and Arwen in the appendice of ROTK)

I voted Eowyn actually. I've always liked her more, mostly because she truly shows that women can fight as well as any man, if not better. She stresses this fact, and I admire Tolkien for adding her in. She has courage, exemplary courage. Arwen is okay too, and true, she had given up many things, but she seemed to represent more of what people of the past would call "Ladylikeness" , like a damsel in distress. They're both great. Personally? Eowyn outbeats her in my book.

That's very true. And Arwen is great as well. She shows more a silent strength that is sometimes hard to follow through than the physical. She is daugher of high elves so you can see why she is all ladylike, unlike Eowyn who has had to defend herself.

I think we all need to realize we can't compare apples to oranges
You may like one better than the other But they both have their qualities and their faults
