Faramir: My lord, Osgiliath is overrun. Denethor: Much must be risked in war.

Denethor: Is there a captain here who still has the courage to do his lord's will?
Faramir: (Voice breaking) You wish now that our places had been exchanged. That I had died and Boromir had lived.
(There is a moment of silence. Denethor's face remains serious)
Denethor: Yes, I wish that.

Faramir: (eyes filling with tears) Then, since you are robbed of Boromir, I will do what I can in his stead...If I should return...think better of me, father.
Denethor: That will depend on the matter of your return.

The hobbits and Gollum are, perched on rocks just off the stair. Frodo is sleeping. Sam struggles to stay awake but fails. When his eyes close, Gollum's open. Gollum sneaks down and takes the lembas from Sam's pack.]
Gollum: Ugh.
[Gollum crumbles some of the lembas and lets it fall onto Sam. He throws the rest off the cliff face. Sam awakes just as he's dusting crumbs off his hands.]
Sam: What are you up to? Sneaking off, are we?
Gollum: S-sneaking? Sneaking! Fat hobbit is always so polite Smeagol shows them secret ways that nobody else can find, and they say sneak. Sneak? Very nice friend, oh yes my precious, very nice!

Sam: All right! All right! You just startled me, that’s all. What were you doing? Gollum: Sneaking Sam: Fine. Have it you own way. Sam goes over to wake up Frodo Sam: I'm sorry to wake you, Mr. Frodo. We have to be moving on. Frodo: It's dark still. Sam: It’s always dark here.
He digs in his pack for some food to give to Frodo Sam: It’s gone! The elven bread! Frodo: What? That's all we have left! Sam: (pointing to Gollum) He took it! He must have! Gollum: Sméagol? No, no, not poor Sméagol. Sméagol hates nasty elf's bread. Sam: You lying rat! What did you do with it?! Frodo: He doesn't eat it. He can’t have taken it. Gollum: Look, what's this? (wiping crumbs off Sam and looking at Frodo) Crumbs on his jacketsses. He took it. He took it!! I've seen him. He is always stuffing his face when Master is not looking. Sam: That's a filthy lie! You stinking filth face! Sam goes after Gollum Frodo: Sam! Stop it! No, Sam! Sam: I'll kill him! Frodo: Sam! No!
Frodo leans against the side of the cliff
Sam: Oh! I'm sorry! I didn’t mean for it to go so far. I was just so, so angry. Here. You just... just rest a bit. Frodo: I’m all right. Sam: No, no you’re not all right. You’re exhausted. It’s that Gollum. It’s this place. It’s that thing around your neck. I could help a bit. I could carry it for a while... Close-up on Frodo's eyes (Sams voice echos in Frodo's head) carry it for a while... I could carry it... carry it... share the load... the load. Frodo: Get away! Sam: I don’t want to keep it! I just want to help. Gollum: See? See? He wants it for himself. Sam: Shut up you! Go away! Get out of here! Frodo: No Sam. It’s you. I’m sorry, Sam. Sam: But, he's a liar! He's poisoned you against me! Frodo: You can't help me anymore. Sam: You don't mean that. Frodo: Go home.
Frodo turns and starts to walk up the mountain, Gollum behind him, and dosen't look back. Sam sits down and crys, not knowing what else to do.
Maetharanel: Sorry if that was going a bit too far.

(Oh I love quoting! I know all threee films off by heart!)
Minas Tirith. Faramir is on a horse, riding through the city with a small group of soldiers, on their way to battle the Orcs and attempt to retake Osgiliath. The people of the city watch them as they go by, sad looks of helplessness ahout them. A woman bows her head. The women throw flowers in front of the horses, and hand small bunches to the soldiers.)
Gandalf: Faramir! Faramir! (Gandalf pushes his way through the crowd) (Walking beside Faramir.) Your father's will has turned to madness! Do not throw away your life so rashly!
Faramir: Where does my allegiance lie, if not here?
(Gandalf watches Faramir ride away.)
Gandalf: Your father loves you, Faramir. He will remember it before the end.
(The soldiers form ranks, and ride toward Osgiliath. The soldiers in Minas Tirith line the walls to watch them go. Orcs in the city raise their heads and watch the riders.)

**Back in the Throne Room** DENETHOR: Can you sing, Master Hobbit? PIPPIN: Well...yes...at least, well enough for my own people. But we have no songs for great halls or evil times. DENETHOR: And why should your songs be unfit for my halls? Come, sing me a song. **PIPPIN watches him eat (not so daintily) with a slightly disgusted look on his face, and begins to sing**
Home is behind the world ahead and there are many paths to tread through shadow to the edge of night until the stars are all alight mist and shadow cloud and shade hope shall fail all shall...fade.
**as he sings, we see the assault of Faramir and his men on Osgiliath, and we see the Orcs fire their arrows before the scene switches to blood from something presumably raw, running from Denethor's lips**

[Theoden rides through the encampment at Dunharrow.]
Rider: My Lord!
Rider: I greet you, Sire!
Theoden: Grimbold, How many?
Grimbold: I bring five hundred from the Westfold, my Lord.
Gamling: We have three hundred more from Fenmarch, Theoden King.
Theoden: Where are the riders from Snowbourne?
Gamling: None have come, my Lord.

Theoden and Aragorn look out over the camped Rohirrim Theoden: Six thousand spears. Less than half of what I'd hoped for. Aragorn: Six thousand will not be enough to break the lines of Mordor. Theoden: More will come. Aragorn: Every hour lost hastens Gondor's defeat. We have till dawn. Then we must ride.

[Eowyn helps Merry prepare for the fight]
Éowyn: "There. A true esquire of Rohan
[Merry touches his helmet in excitement] Merry: "I'm ready!" [draws his sword]
[Éowyn get's frightened for a second, then laughes] Merry: "sorry. tisn't all that dangerous. It's not even sharp."
Éowyn:"well that's no good. You won't kill many orcs with a blunt blade. Come on."
[Get's out of the tent, Merry waves with the sword.]
Éowyn:" To the smithy. Go!"
[After Merry's gone, Éomer speaks.] Éomer: "You should not incurage him," Éowyn." You should not doubt him." Éomer: " I do not doubt his heart, only the reach of his arm." [Gamaling laughs] Éowyn:"Why should Merry be left behind? He has as much cause to go to war as you... Why can he not fight for those he loves?"

[We see a white horse ride up the mountain with a cloaked rider] [Aragorn's awful dream: Arwen is dying in Rivendell. Arwen (In dream/flashback): I Choose A Mortal Life. The Next scene is Arwen laying in her bed in a red and black dress, very sickly. Arwen (In dream): I wish I could have seen him... one last time. Aragorn notices that the Evenstar falls from his neck and crashes to the floor. Then he wakes up with a sword at hand, only to see a soldier of Rohan] Soldier: Sir? King Theoden Awaits You. [Aragorn walks to King Theoden's Tent, and sees Theoden speaking to the cloaked rider, still unable to be seen] Theoden: I take my leave...

[The dark-cloaked figure stands and pulls back his hood. It is Elrond.]
Aragorn: [bowing] My lord Elrond.
Elrond: I come on behalf of one whom I love. Arwen is dying. She will not long survive the Evil that now spreads from Mordor. The light of the evenstar is fading. As Sauron's power grows her strength wanes. Arwen's life is now tied to the fate of the ring. A shadow is upon us Aragorn. The end is come.
Aragorn: It will not be our end, but his.
Elrond: You ride to war, but not to victory. Sauron's armies march on Minas Tirith, as you know. But in secret he sends another force, which will attack from the river. A fleet of Corsair ships sails from the south. It will be in the city in two days. You're outnumbered, Aragorn. You need more men.
Aragorn: There are none.
Elrond: There are those who dwell in the mountain.
[An image of the Dead King flashes.]

Aragorn: Murderers... traitors! You would call upon them to fight? They believe in nothing! They answer to no one!
Elrond: They will answer to the King of Gondor!
Elrond show Aragorn the reforged Narsil, now called Andúril, flame of the west.
Elrond: Andúril, Flame of the West, forged from the Shards of Narsil.
Aragorn: Sauron will not have forgotten the Sword of Elendil. (He looks at the sword before him, and quickly draws Andúril from the sheath. The camera follows the blade to the tip as Aragorn stares at it.) The blade that was broken shall return to Minas Tirith.
Elrond: The man who can wield the power of this sword can summon to him an army more deadly than any that walks this earth. Put aside the Ranger. Become who you were born to be. Take the Dimholt road.
