Haldir and his elf buddies never came to Helms Deep in the book. Neither did Eowyn or any of the other people of Rohan. I think I like it better wiht them all there though. But I wonder why PJ didn't stick to the book a bit more about that. How do the rest of you feel about this?

I like Eowyn being there as it brought her more into the story but i kinda think the elves being there was a bit unbelievablle. I mean, how did they get all the way there so fast? They would have been really tired after marching all that way and yet the fought. That's just me...

^ i agree too...the elves were a bit much, but i think PJ wanted to show that some elves actually did care about what happened to the race of men. i thought it was a cool touch.

Yeah i think it was good in showing that two different races can put aside whatever differences they have and unite against one evil, and maybe that was why it was done but...maybe i'm just being picky on noting the things that don't make much sense lol

I agreed the two towers, condensed: HELM'S DEEP ROHIRRIM GUARD: Sire, there are some really serious people at the gate. They have bows. Big bows. ARAGORN: Those are Elves. Let them in. ROHIRRIM GUARD: Oh! Elves! Wow, I didn't expect that. PEOPLE WHO READ THE BOOK: Neither did I...
It didn't really, really iritate me like some of the other changes made in the TTT movie, but I thought killing Haldir was pushing it b/c he was still meant to be alive and kicking at the end of rotk... the elves were cool, but i couldn't see the point in having them there. it took away the emphasis on how serious the battle was b/c they had unexpected help, so the viewer is more optimistic about their chances of winning. also it was a bit out of keeping with the elves because in truth they didn't really care about some 'minor' battle at helm's deep.

I'm not really sure because on one hand, it was COMPLETELY different from the book, but on the other hand, it was cool to see alittle more elves in TTT.

Even though it went against the books, It was cool to see the elves fighting, and their like combat style. Because you don't see much of that in the Last Alliance part. But I mean could you imagine if the elves didn't come? MASSACRE

Tat is so true! I think it was so cool seeing all those elves fight! I love elves! And the part of eowyn makes clear that girls can fight for their loved ones 2!

Maybe it was great but the Elver WERE NOT in Helm's Deep. I think the only reason Mr. Jackson put them in that scene was to make it more interesting for non-Tolkien fans.

See i saw the movie before reading the book, and when i opened the book and read that the elves NEVER came, i got kind of mad that he made all that up. I mean, he didnt have to do that! Its like he wanted us to watch Haldir die! Lol, I really didnt see the point in that..i guess he just wanted to make it more dramatic, with Gandalf getting Eomer and them coming and killing all the orcs at the end of the battle..but oh well.

yeah i think PJ did a good job putting them in Hemls deep how did they win without the elves By fighting really, really hard. And just holding on until the reinforcements came. it was pretty hopeless, really.

i liked the idea of the elves and eowyn coming to helms deep. and i think for a movie they had to do this. first of all....it shows that the ring is not only affecting one race...but all! this explains the story more. and for eowyn....she really was barely in the book but i think in the movie it works so you can see her character a bit more.
