Yeah, his envy kind of got in there along with the love.
Well, I don't think he intended to kill her. She jumped in front of ehr son when he shot the arrow.

I think the whole relationship might be out of lust, but maybe she ruturned his feelings and when Aredhel told Maeglin, that was her big mistake, of her brother's kingdom and how that he had no heir except for Idril, he got an idea that maybe he should take mom there and leave dad so he could be king, but that desire cost him his parents' life.

My version of The Silmarillion says Ëol "ensared" Aredhel but she was also not unhappy with him. I don't think however that she loved him but, after having Maeglin, did not want to seperate him from his father and it was not until Maeglin wanted to go with her that she did leave. So, I think she mainly stayed as long as she did because of Maeglin and didn't truly love Ëol.

Good point. Yeah I also think she stayed mostly for her son but maybe deep down she felt a little bit of pity for Eol and so stayed.

The story of Maeglin and Idril has always fascinated me, more than Aredhel and Eol, although it was quite interesting. (As you can see, I admire Idril! lol)

They're both really good in my opinion.
