Yeah, he created a world, and then left some of it to the imagination. Tolkien is my hero. ;D ;D Justly said, he is my hero too

I do not know, but that is a good question?

Maybe Tolkien made it that way on purpose... after all, if he answered that question we wouldn't be talking about it now, right??

I was just reading The Lord of the Rings a little while ago, and in FotR the hobbits talk about someone seeing a tree walking. Boy, does that sound like an ent to me. So, Tolkien left us clues, and it looks to me like the Entwives ended up in the Shire. Treebeard said they would like the Shire, and a hobbit sees what looks like an ent. That might also mean that entwives looked similar to ents, because from Tolkien's description in FotR, that looked like a walking tree, in other words, it looked like an ent. Sorry if I am confusing anybody, I know what I am talking about but I sometimes seem to have trouble makingother people undrerstand...

The entwives are gone!
Merry obviously knew what he was talking about when he said "a treeshepherd". So there you go... Entwives moved to somewhere near the shire, maybe?

::)Perhaps. I don't think we'll ever know for sure.

"'But what about these Tree-men, these giants, as you might call them? They do say that one bigger than a tree was seen up away along the North Moors not long back.' 'Who's they?" 'my cousin Hal for one... he saw one.' 'Says he did perhaps...' 'But this one was as big as an elm tree, and walking - walking seven yards to a stride, as if it was an inch.' 'Then I bet it wasn't an inch, and what he saw was an elm tree.' 'But this one was walking, and I tell you; there ain't no elm tree on the North Moors.'" -From Fotr (where there is a ..., I took a section out to shorten it)
I don't know about you guys, but this has me conviced that the entwives moved to the Shire. How could you want it much plainer than that?

A lot of clues point to the fact that the entwives did end up near the Shire, but we may never know for sure

that's true. Wel'll never quite know the answer. Maybe Tolien didn't quite explain it all because he didn't think they would be so popular.

I think that the Entwives may have been more domesticated then the Ents. Think of tress now, they are trimmed and shaped. I think that maybe those were once Entwives who became "treeish." I don't know if that makes sense, but that is my opinion

Yes. I believe that the Entwives "ran away" and ended up near the Shire which would explain what they saw.

Thank you! I'm sorry, but I (personaly) think it's plain that they went to the Shire. Not only did some hobbits see it, Treebeard said Entwives would like it in the Shire. Besides, what else would they have seen?

I agree with Haerodiel - this sounds like an Entwife to me, since all the Ents stayed in the one place really...its a wee shame that the Ents lost the Entwives...*sniff* a sad xTx

I think they went to the Shire, personally. Treebeard talks about how that sounds like a place they would like, and in early FotR, Sam talks about his cousin/friend/buddy seeing a walking tree!
