When you consider that Tolkien wrote LotR as one complete book, which is how I'm reading it, TTT is crucial because it is the part of the book that builds up to all the climax of RotK. For people who jumped from FotR to RotK, there's a lot that wouldn't make any sense, for example the Rohirrim. Without reading TTT, one would never know who these warriors are that are coming to Gondor's aid. We'd go from Saruman's treachery in FotR to him suddenly being locked in Orthanc without knowing the Ents at all.
Yes, TTT, as the main body of one book, is a very important piece. Ya couldn't have the others without it. I'm not fond of it myself, I found it very slow reading until Helm's Deep.

I'm probably in the minority here, but I'll say it anyways. I actually prefer Two Towers to Fellowship.( Not that I dislike Fellowship.) And no not just because of the introduction of the Rohirrim. Gandalfs return, Merry and Pippin with Treebeard, Helms Deep, Gandalf confronting Saruman. There's so much in there I just really enjoy reading. So yeah, Two Towers for me is very important.

TEXTTEXT I don't think that the book is the most important. I thought the movie was one of the best because of all the battles. The Two Towers is one of my favorite movies so I kinda argee but because of the book (i read so slow) I'm not sure now. May it be an Evening Star

I think it is the most important, if you didn't read it, you'd be wondering where the heck Boromir got to

I don't know if TTT is the most important. The three books are all important. Without FotR you wouldn't know anything (esp. Elrond-chapter and stuff), but for the progression of the story TTT is the most important. You get the beginning of the great war and how all people in M-E start coming together to fight the one big evil. You also get to know much about Aragorn and for the first time he comes out as "the king" It has nice parts, is most exciting to read etc etc. So don't know witch one of the first two is most important, I think they both are. And since they were written as one big story and devided up later in three books, it's hard to tear the story apart.

As I have mentioned before TTT was sort of a climax that the heroes of the books would not be able to go on without. So I think personaly that it was the most important out of the 3 and I liked it the best.

i definately think it was most important...it moved the story along and drew you in more and more. especially at the end in choices of master samwise...you just had to keep on reading to find out what happened!

I think The Two Towers was the book I enjoyed the most (it's my favourite), and the movie I liked the least. I don't think it's the most important book - I think The Return of the King is, because it is the climax and the resolution of the story. This doesn't mean, though, that one book could 'exist' without the other. Since it is really meant ot be part of all one big book, it's like saying which part of the book is the most important? While that may be obvious, that doesn't mean that the rest of the book is unnecessary or pointless.

TTT wasnt neccesarily my favorite...but if you look through it there is alot of different pieces of the story that come together and it is alot more important (not exciting) than lots of people think Yes i agree with val alot of the story came together there, but FotR was the main crucial part of the story. But you are right, because FotR is the beginning (where they all decide what to do) TT is the middle (where everything starts coming together) and RotK is the resoltion, its the ending (where everything ends and comes together for the epic ending)
